Any ideas?
I have this uncontrollable fear about going to the doctor. I have serious panic attacks whenever I go and now being in withdrawal I really don't think I can do it. I have an appointment in 2 weeks and I'm trying to figure out how I'm actually going to get through it without losing my mind. Any ideas?

Re: Any ideas?
Danielle, is this doctor visit essential, or can it be postponed? I've had the same problem as you in the past, and I just didn't go to the doctor unless it was absolutely necessary.

Re: Any ideas?
It's kind of essential. One of those yearly check ups but I've had problems in the past so they like it if I go pretty regularly. Am I always going to feel this way towards them? I really can't figure it out?

Re: Any ideas?
First, let's look at it this way: You go every year and make it through, this year will be no different.
Second, anxiety is perfectly normal before a Dr. visit. You won't always feel as strongly as you do now, but that doesn't mean you'll never have anxiety about going and that's ok! For a lot of us, based on what we're going through, we have no trust in doctors at all, which is where the fear of going comes in. For me, I decided to NEVER take what they say as the gospel. I think we all trusted doctors and everything they told us, because they're doctors, for heavens sake! Not anymore! I listen, but I also put in my two cents and if I'm not sure of something, I have no problem asking. I take much more control of my well being now. If you have that attitude, you'll sail through this appointment!

Re: Any ideas?
It sounds like w/d has heightened the anxieity which it does for me (big time).
Ask a friend or relative to go with you. Don't miss an essential appointment. You are not going to die, faint or go crazy. The anxiety makes us think we are. Talk yourself thru it just like you would for a good friend. Flooding ourselves with anxiety producing experience very often helps us over come them. You are going to be fine. Tell the doctor the truth. He/she may comfort you and that will be an anxiety reliever........Hang in there. |
