Talk to me about bad dreams and nightmares please!

Hi Everyone,
I have vivid nonsense dreams, it feels so real, but they do not jive with reality at all. Like driving my daughter's van somewhere, getting out of the van, leaving her to sleep and driving around town on a rickety bicycle with my toddler son to find a Dairy Queen ice cream place.

Really strange. DD is 35, DS is 30, this would never be real.

Or the dreams are scary, like I am driving, but can't reach the pedals or can't see out the window, or the brake won't work. And violent scary crashes on the horizon. I see that if I drive a straight line , I avoid the accident, but all at the very last minute. I talk loudly in these dreams, enough to wake the dog up frantic.

I think I have been doing this for awhile, but am not sure. Is there anything that might help?

This was just about the last side effect to go for me. I'm 18 months off Paxil and 2 weeks from the end of an 8-month benzo taper, and it's only been the past few weeks that the bad dreams have finally stopped. I had them the whole time I was on meds, in fact they were the main reason I quit taking Paxil--a blessing in disguise, as it turned out.

Someone posted here a day or two ago that listening to soothing music while falling asleep helps. I have some relaxation CDs and I find that listening to them at bedtime does help with the dreams.

Oh good to know. Or maybe not? But they are quite intense sometimes. I will try some music, or maybe a noisy fan.

Thanks!
