Seeing things??

Has anyone encountered an eye problem where it starts out as a little sun spot with what I call "disco lights" in the center on your visual field but then gets bigger and bigger until it takes up your whole vision and your literally half blind??
I had this happen once about 8 months ago when I was tapering from celexa and put on paxil all at once. I have had this happen twice in a week since I have stopped taking paxil so I know it w/d, but it's kind of freaky!! It seems like I am having a stroke, but I know I'm not!! All I am left with afterwards is a bad headache and a tight neck!!
Anyways, I hope that everyone is having a decent Friday!

Leap - that sounds to me kind of like the aura before a migraine. That is very, very common among migraine sufferers but I had visual disturbances. I saw black stuff darting in and out of my vision all the time and it continued about 6 months post Paxil. This is very common.

Focus your attention on the here and now. Recognize it for what it is: the one moment of the only life you will ever have that you truly possess. Rare is the individual who has come to completely accept that the past is no more than a memory and the future an assumption about unborn events.

Thanks for the info. I thought of migraines too, though I don't get them hardly ever and I've already had dull headache for days now. I think the whole eye aura thing just made it worse because I am at work and I had to do computer work while I couldn't see.

Re: Seeing things??

Leap, this is probably withdrawal related, but it's something that I would have checked out to be on the safe side.

Re: Seeing things??

I did run upstairs to my doctors office and she is telling me that it sounds like a migraine and that it could probably be caused by paxil w/d. I even looked up the word aura on google and there was a picture drawn of an aura experienced before a migraine and that was exactly was I was seeing!!! I however haven't found any site that attributes migrain to paxil w/d, but I guess that anything can happen when you play with the chemicals in your brain!!

Re: Seeing things??

I'm glad you had it checked out. Headaches and migraines are very common in withdrawal. Paxil withdrawalers should buy stock in Advil!!

Re: Seeing things??

Yeah, I am one of many, many people that keep advil in business! I am just relieved to know that migraines are part of w/d. It helps to keep my already existing anxiety at bay.
You all are wonderful people and I am so glad I found this site! Thank you for your support!!

Re: Seeing things??

When my hubby's meds were changed he saw out of his peripheral vision what looked like bugs crawling along his desk. When he looked directly at them - they were gone. This has happened a couple of times when his meds were messed up.
Just thought it was better for you to hear about it than have it happen & freak like he did the 1st time he saw them.
Best of luck!

Re: Seeing things??

leapfrog, my daughter had this while 'on' paxil. She was sent to a neuro who diagnosed her with migraines, as well as gave me a letter for the school that when this happened sitting quiet was required.

She also told me this is very common for people on psychiatric meds. Withdrawal triggers worse migraines...

Re: Seeing things??

i had my first experience of this shortly after starting seroxat,i was watching tv when i thought i had gone blind for a few seconds then as my sight returned it was like bright coloured lights flashing,i too was told this was a migraine, never had anything like ti prior to seroxat.I also had a week of it during withdrawal, flashing lights, dizziness ,feeling sick followed by real bad headaches,it came and disappeared over a week, all i get now it like a flashing in the bottom of my vision, its annoying but not as bad as those hellish ones

Re: Seeing things??

Really strange. I just started having visual problems actually. My eyes actually hurt when I move them and sometimes when I don't and I keep seeing flashing lights and spots. It is really freaking me out. Never had this symptom before.

Re: Seeing things??

I am hoping that this is truly the Paxil and it will slowly just go away.

Re: Seeing things??

Ryan had ALOT of visual stuff. I wouldn't call it hallucinations, but it was weird flashes, misinterpretation of what he was seeing. Gone today!
