Joint Pain?

The past few weeks I've been having joint pain, especially in my hip joints. I try not to take anything, but I took Advil yesterday and it was so bad last night I had to get up and take a Celebrex that is two years old, probably out of date. I've had to take it again to-day twice.
My neck jerking came back with a vengeance on Wednesday so I cut another half mg. Thursday. This evening the jerking is gone again.
I started to take liquid magnesium again before I go to bed but can only tolerate a small dose. I do have arthritis in my hands, but they haven't bothered me in a long while. We've had a lot of rain lately and I guess the damp weather doesn't help.
I wonder what other people do for joint pain?
Eileen

Re: Joint Pain?

Advil always works for me. Considering you've had a lot of rain, coupled with the arthritis, this could be the culprit.

Re: Joint Pain?

Hi, Eileen.

I have arthritis in my neck, hands and knees. I take glucosamine/chondroitin and fish oil. It isn't the same as taking advil to kill the pain, but i haven't needed anywhere near as much advil since I started taking the supplements.

As I decrease cymbalta, I tend to feel stiffer and have more neck-aches...withdrawal is a drag.

Re: Joint Pain?

Joint pain was my worst and longest lasting symptom of early withdrawal. It was horribly bad in my hips, esp. if I was tired. Typically, it would start in my toes, then in my fingers, then work it's way up throughout the day to my knees/elbows, then hips/shoulders. Advil helped. Sleep helped more. It does go away eventually. All told, I probably only had this for six weeks, but it was a LONG six weeks.

Thanks for answering my post Laurie. I'm not going to take the Celebrex anymore as it could have bad side effects. My hands are feeling somewhat better to-day.

Is it ever a drag Westee, thank God for this board, so we can help each other out. You are saying glucosamine/chondroitin, is this a combination? Fish oil is out for me as it gives me reflux. I do eat a lot of fish. I just took a glucosamine sulfate caplet and I'm going to keep on trying it.

Hi Andie, I'm one of those people that accupuncture dosen't seem to work for. Congratulations on being off Paxil.

Kim, I've had it on and off, but for some reason, it's much worse in the last few days. I'm sleeping at night, but not like I used to. It is much worse on my right side, even in my knee.

Re: Joint Pain?

Hi, Eileen, yes glucosamine and chondroitin are mixed together or you can get them separately. I get mine from Vitacost place I can find for supplements. They have flat rate shipping so I try to stock up on all my supplements when I order from them.

Another combo is glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM and I don't know anything about what MSM can do for you - or to you.

That joint pain is so demoralizing. Can't rest or get moving...feel like you're 112 years old...

Re: Joint Pain?

Eileen-

It's common in withdrawal for things to happen on one side. My right side still tends to get symptoms, while my left side does not. Happens to a lot of people.

One of the reasons that I might have gotten hit so hard all at once was that I didn't taper.

Re: Joint Pain?

Is there something in Paxil that masks joint pain? It's my most noticable physical effect since getting below about 3mg. Especially my right hip and the index finger on my left hand ( that's in addition to slight pain in both knees!). Also I find my arms and hands 'go to sleep' far more often now than they ever did even if I'm not 'leaning' on them for very long.

I read someone's post who says they take a baby aspirin every day - would this help with the pain?

Re: Joint Pain?

Paxil has pain as a side effect for some people. I know De Lyn had pain while on it; others have too. More frequently, it is one of a long list of w/d symptoms. It comes and goes just like zaps, dizziness, numbness, etc.

I have to push my self to keep on going. I can't handle lying in bed. LOL Hubby and I walked along the beach and up on the cliff this morning and it did help for a little while.

Kim, I can't even imagine what you went through! I think it happens on one side because the other side of the brain is healing.

Laurie, mine didn't get really bad until I passed ten. I've been under some stress lately as you know and I don't think it helps. It's my right side. It is a relief to know that others have gone through it. Not that I want anybody to have pain, but to know it is WD and it will go away.

Poppy, I take Advil, when I have pain. I don't know what a baby aspirin would do and I thought I read somewhere not to take a lot of aspirin as it thins the blood and so does Paxil.

Re: Joint Pain?

Here are some herbal treatments I have read about for arthritis and joint pain: ginger, turmeric, withania (ashwagandha), gotu kola, bacopa monnieri (brahmi), boswellia, bedellium, celery seed.

Also you can get some good sprays and creams containing capsaicin (from capsicums). They work best if you use them every day as the effect builds up over time.

I've noticed this too! I wondered if it was something to do with withdrawal or if it was just me! I sometimes wake in the middle of the night with no feeling in my fingers.

My joint pain is totally gone to-day! Thank God! I'm sure it will come back at another time until I'm completely off Paxil.
My neck jerking is really bad to-day! I hate this, sometimes it's there and other times, I don't have it at all. I'll be glad when I see the end of Paxil!

Re: Joint Pain?

I get this occasional swelling of my fingers. It was really bad this past winter and it passed to all my joints. It happened when i was unemployed after working a fast paced/physical job. They threw me these anti inflammatory drugs which were horrible and after one dose i threw them out. Made an apptm. but by the time it came the swelling had subsided.

A big mystery how these things come and go. Hope it stops for you too.

Re: Joint Pain?

I do have arthritis in my hands as it showed in the X-Rays! It's strange but when I had to switch from Paxil to generic, the swelling in my hands seem to go down. It was so bad that I was having hot wax therapy on them. They feel pretty good to-day. I swear these drugs do cause arthritis.
I walked along the sea again to-day and I'm going to try and do it every day.
Thanks Jill.

Re: Joint Pain?

You might try Glucosamine/Chondroitin. I have had joint pain for years and have taken Glu/Cho for several years. It's effect is very sublte. About 6 weeks ago I decided to quit taking it, didn't think about it until about a week and a half ago. I woke up one day with sore joints and realized it was most likely coming from not taking the Glucosamine/Chondroitin. I just bought some about 3 days ago and have restarted taking it.
I have heard that taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin is kind of like "oiling" your joints. It takes time to build up and work, but if you quit taking it then you notice that yes it really does work.
I also just ordered some Tart Cherry capsules. My girlfriend's husband has been taking this for several months and has since had no occurances of his continual gout and inflammation. It is also supposed to help with insomnia.
I am hoping to kill two birds with one stone by using it !

Re: Joint Pain?

hmmm...i have terrible aches and pains in my knees and elbows....it was so bad yesterday that i couldn't walk down the stairs (going up isn't as hard)....I'm only 28! I feel like an 80 yr old.

Also, I've noticed that my arms and legs fall asleep more easily too.

I'm looking into an MSM supplement...my husband takes it for back pain, and he says it helps.

Tylenol was my best pal for a long, long time. Once in awhile I'd take a couple tylenol with a low dose aspirin.

Re: Joint Pain?

Thanks Shea and everybody for answering my posts. I can't seem to take Tylenol so I have to take Advil. My doc doesn't like Advil, he said it was bad for my kidneys but I have no other choice. It's pretty good to-day and I didn't have to take anything.

What's helping me is Lakota, the roll-on pain reliever for muscles and bone. It doesn't smell bad at all and it supposed to be all natural.
