Re: PMS and Withdrawal

I was on a different SSRI, but after my adverse reaction to Prozac I didn't have a period for 8 months.

Re: PMS and Withdrawal

My PMS was VERY bad there for a while, but (knock on wood) the last two months haven't been too bad, now that I'm in these low doses.

Re: PMS and Withdrawal

While I was on Paxil, I sailed through my periods. Through the tapering process, the PMS has been hellish! The periods have been the same, but I'm on the pill. It's just amazing how this stuff screws up your hormones so much.

Re: PMS and Withdrawal

i have never been on the pill except when i was younger and tried it out..and it made me so ill..so i have never taken it...maybe that helps being on the pill...Paxil screws up your hormones like there is no tomorrow...i wonder if it is harder on us because we are older..not old..lol..just older!!!

Re: PMS and Withdrawal

My girlfriend, never had a problem, EVER. She never took the pill, for the same reasons you can't and she could tell you when she was going to start, down to the time. Once she turned 40, it all went to crap, and this past summer, at 46, she had a hysterectomy.

Re: PMS and Withdrawal

After I came off the drugs (and in ignorance of side-effects & w/d) I went to the docs with terrible PMS, like nothing I'd ever experienced before.

My periods are reasonably regular (which they never were pre-drug, but that was my 'norm'), however I get suicidal for a couple of days before they occur now - it's so obvious I just note it, and file it. Before, they were heavy & painful, but with no bad 'mood' effects that I recall.

Re: PMS and Withdrawal

The ironic thing is that SSRIs are commonly prescribed to "treat" PMS and PMDD. I never had "female problems" until I started taking Paxil and then I had horrible week-long periods. I was actually scheduled to have a hysterectomy last December. I am glad now that I backed out of it because my "female problems" seem to be getting a little better. I still have cramps, leg pain, and back pain during my periods but the time frame is considerably shorter.

Re: PMS and Withdrawal

Paxil never changed or affected my periods, however, PMS has been hell for me during poop out and during weaning as well...I did not relate the two at first, and switched my pill - which did not help.
