Home alone....need help!

Hey. I'm home alone right now and my agoraphobia is trying to rear its ugly head. I feel almost paniced but haven't gotten full blown yet. My husband should be home in about 30 minutes. I know I have to learn to deal with this as my kids are adults now and even though 3 still live here they are gone a lot working and out, etc. Anyway its harder now that I'm going through WD,etc. There's alot of stress in our lives right now, pregnant daughter (single mother to be), father-in-law in hospital, mother in law feeble needs help everyday, my husband trying to work and take care of them, the holidays and no money. Just need some help to get thorough I guess??

Agoraphobia? You are panicking about leaving the house?

Re: Home alone....need help!

aww sorry you are not feeling good! is agoraphobia fear of being alone?? sorry i'm dumb lol.

when i'm alone and feeling panicky, i like to turn the tv on, and find a movie or something to watch. it helps me feel distracted. or, taking a shower and feel refreshed helps me feel like i'm helping myself somehow.

think positive!

sorry i dont really know what else to say but just wanted you to know i read your post and feel for you!

No, some people don't know this but some agoraphobics are afraid to be by theirselves also. Or maybe its something else but I don't do well when I'm by myself especially at night.

Thanks all...Husband just drove up... I feel better now. I'll probably go to the hospital with him to see his dad in a little while.

Re: Home alone....need help!

OK.... I would say that you need to learn to ride this out..alone.

I still get these "spasms" at night and they wake me up...I feel like my breathing is all wrong or I can't breath properly...but I lie there and I meditate on it and I calm myself down.. I say ok..whats happening....describe it to me...then I realize that my heart rate and breathing are fine , then when I examine this more carefully I see that my brain is into some sort of spasm, it can't seem to make up its mind whether I have breathing issues or not, but when I finally "see this" and understand that its still part of my Paxil trauma..then I am able to relax and eventually get back to sleep.

Now of course you don't have the same thing, but the idea, the technique might help you, try first to clam down...sit in a chair and close your eyes, then ask yourself to describe the whole thing ..out loud as you would to a doctor..try to be as clear as possible....I assure you once you do this, your anxiety level will start to drop... whats important is the dialogue and that your not "passive" about this.
Give it a try and tell me what you get out of it.

Regards, Johnny
