Re: Published Withdrawal Studies

I am a dedicated wife, mother of twins, and a school teacher. Heaven forbid if I forget or choose not to take paroxetine before experiencing vertigo/electrical twinges in the brain. My doc says to stay on it for 3 years before trying to ween off. I've been taking it for over a year and am now trying to ween off despite the doc's recommendations. Has anyone heard of other recommendations regarding weening off this stuff? I've tried and it controls. I feel duped. Paroxetine helped out with my depression, but I feel devoid of sexual drive. This is NOT acceptable for my life, but somehow I have become prisoner.

Re: Welcome vbarrera !

Vbarrera, I've moved your post into it's own thread so that it doesn't get lost. Staying on for three years.....I just don't get these docs. That just allows more brain alterations to occur.
Weaning is a process that has to be taken slow. We recommend weaning by 10% of your dose every 4-5-6 weeks. Yes, this is a long process, but doing it this way allows you to function while getting off the drug. This does require Liquid Paxil. If liquid isn't available(you do need a new prescription) then cutting 10mg tablets in quarters will allow you to wean by 2.5mg at a time. Not the best way, but doable if taken slow enough.

Re: Welcome vbarrera !

Welcome, Vbarrera! I don't have anything to add to Laurie's post. The only way to do this, comfortably, is as she recommended.

The key here is quality of life. In order to maintain that, it's imperative to take this slow.

We'll be here to help in any way we can!
