Zaps- What are they?

Has anyone seen research on this. Ive tried other antidepressants but never had this zapping thing happen when I stopped. Think of all the people who come off alcohol and other drugs, Ive never heard of them having it. What the hell is it? I was thnking maybe the neurotransmitters have been altered in some way. The closest thing Ive researched on the internet is "vertigo" wich is a disturbance of the equillibrium in the inner ear.

I have been wondering the same myself. For me it was the first WD symptom to appear and first one to go away too, why is that.

Re: Zaps- What are they?

A dear friend of mine is experienceing this, as she is trying to come off of Effexor XR. I warned her a long time ago. I asked her what kind of tapering schedule the Dr. gave her...and as soon as she mentioned the every other day thing, I immediately knew what the problem was. This is an opportunity to help someone. I have given her this website as well as other resources that can help her. But- above all, I told her NOT to listen to her Doc because they were ignorant. I gave her some suggestions on how to taper properly without so many problems. I hope she takes my advice. We shall see soon.
