OK, Starting my taper....

I currently take 25 mg. Paxil, 2 10's and 1/2 of a 10mg. I am just shaving a tiny bit off my 1/2 of 10 (5mg) Should I switch to liquid, or continue to shave?? Im soooo nervous, like prom night or something!! Is it crazy to also try to quit smoking and drinking at the same time, or will "it all come together" after the taper??

Re: OK, Starting my taper....

Well, you should absolutely not drink, so I'd stop that first and foremost. The smoking can wait.

It's going to be much easier for you to measure more accurately with liquid. Don't be nervous, stick to the 10% rule and don't be impatient...you'll do just fine!

I just printed the spread sheet, do you think I should wait until I get the liquid, or go with my shaved pieces?

Good decision! And switch to liquid. It's much more accurate than shaving.

Roxy - you can do this!!!!!!!!!! If I can do it, YOU can do it. It may be bumpy at times, but with the help of this board and your wonderful husband, you're going to do just fine.

Re: OK, Starting my taper....

If you're going to do the trick with cutting tablets, it's more accurate if you use a jeweler's scale. I got one on e-bay, because I'm allergic to one of the ingredients in the liquid.

Just listen to your body and take it one day at a time.

I was thinking of called my MD to get the liquid today. Is the jewelers scale a "gram scale" ?? My kids are going to think Im a drug dealer. I can just see myself hiding in my bedroom, carefully weighing out my poison!! LOL

Re: OK, Starting my taper....

The liquid is so much better. It makes a big difference, because you have total control.

I think you'll notice as you go off the poison, the desire to both drink and smoke diminishes. It definitely has for me, without me even doing anything!

Roxy-

For cutting/trimming pills, a scale that will read down to about 0.001g is what youll need. They are called lots of different names, but as long as it can read to that precision, you should be OK.

The one I bought looks something like this----

Re: OK, Starting my taper....

yes, very cool looking scale. I was at Wallyworld trying to pick up the liquid for roxygirl's tapering. The pharmacist asked if she was no longer able to take to tablets. I said she was beginning a taper and my that my understanding is this is a more accurate way to measure due to uneven distribution of med in tablet form. He said yes but they only had 100ml in stock. He asked how long for the taper. I said a long, long, long time. He said, "oh, I thought it might be enough". So I wondered? "doesn't he have awareness of nasty w/d from rapid taper?" I guess I shouldn't be too surprised he didn't mention any concern's here.

Re: OK, Starting my taper....

Good luck on your journey! There will be rough times here and there but I can guarantee you one thing~~~one day you WILL be off the poison and you will feel so free!! You will definately NEVER regret tapering.

The biggest mistake people who taper make is that sometimes when they don't get very noticable w/d symptoms, they get real brave and make a big drop. After that things get real bad and then its very hard to get stable again, and some never do. Take it nice and slow and keep to the plan!

Good luck.

Larry, I have ONE 40 mg pill left. When I am completely finished, I am going to buy a shadow box and mount the pill in the box. Then I am going to hang it on the wall so that I can remember two very important things: how strong I am, and how a tiny little thing, when left unchecked, can bring you to your knees. Two things I never want to forget.

Then when/if the pill just wears down from age, I'll dump it in the garbage.

Explorer! I told you they dont sell manual ones!! They are ONLY electric now, but the emoticon was great, cracked me up. Go get the tweezers. I talked with my therapist today, and told her about this site. She is the angel that sits on my shoulder. She said she would take a peek, when she was ready to get good and angry at drug companies (not a firm believer in the med. route) YOU GO GIRL!!
