back on 5 mg

Hi Everyone,
Ive decided to go back on 5 mg. A few days ago, while still on the 2.5, I began having pins and needles all over and I felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin (I sit at a desk all day). I was also getting stabbing headaches. I just think there are too many unknowns about this drug and I need more time, not only to adjust, but to learn more before going off it completely. I hope Im doing the right thing. I wish there were a way to get through this with no withdrawal. This place has been one of the biggest helps to me

Re: back on 5 mg

You tapered too much, too fast. So, going back up in dose is a wise choice.

Get stable, and taper at a later date. Listen, if you taper using the 10% rule, you'll be able to do this with minimal discomfort, believe me! If I did it from 20 mgs, you can do it from 5 mgs.

Re: back on 5 mg

I tapered from 20mgs to 10. Was off for 8 wks and felt like crap. All kinds of strange feelings. I went back to 10mgs daily one week ago and still not feeling real good. Even went to ER last week thinking I may be having a heart attack. Stayed the night and had a bunch of tests and my heart is ok. Am also taking Aciphex for reflux. Am hoping they both kick in soon. If not am thinking maybe I should go to 15mgs. But I don't want to jump the gun and so something I'll be sorry for. God I hate this feeling!

LC is right. Not a thing wrong with learning from a past taper and reinstating. It is NOT a failure. Get yourself stable. Do what you need to do.

To give you a little more hope, I've been coming off of 40 mgs and am about 3 weeks or less from being done completely.

It's possible!

I hate to ask this question, but I feel so rotten I'm going to. How long will it take to get stable. I know everyone is different but I had to ask

Re: back on 5 mg

I am in same position as all of you. I dropped from 10 mg to 7.5 and started feeling ill after two weeks. Let it go for another week and now I am back up on 10. I am still not doing very well but only been on 10 for 4 days now. A lot of anxiety. Going back up in dose I think is a wise choice. I know it's hard not to go up any further when we aren't feeling well. Waiting for the drug to kick in really sucks!!! Everything will be ok for all of us. :-)

Re: back on 5 mg

Judy,

I was told 2-3 weeks. Since you were off for 8 weeks I would probably say about 2 weeks. thats just my guess. Hang in there....I know I feel awful too...my back feels like pins and needles, my ears are hurting and i feel sick from anxiety. It is awful.

Re: back on 5 mg

i am sorry this is happening to you. I have been there. I too had to start again. I am on 5mg and intend to be here for a good amount of time before I do another taper. Try to relax and not obsess over it I know how hard it is - once you stabalize and you will you are going to feel better then you can come up with a slow taper that works for you.
Good luck

Re: back on 5 mg

It can take several weeks to fully stabilize. Remember, it took at least that long for Paxil to take full effect when you first started taking it. As I always say, Paxil isn't like asprin. You're not going to feel immediate relief.

However, everyone is different and some people feel the effects quicker than others.

Re: back on 5 mg

When I crashed from tapering too fast and put my dose back up, it took me about 3 weeks to feel much improvement, the first week being the worst. It took even longer to actually stabilise again. I know it's hard, but you've got to be patient.

I did this same thing. the drop to 7.5 was pretty harsh. I went back to 10mg and will remain there until I can decide what to do next.

Re: back on 5 mg

Glad to hear you're feeling better. You did the right thing to go back up to 5mg. Take the time to stabilize and consider doing the 10% for future tapering. Slow is the best way to go. Good luck to you.
