off balance

I seem to be getting more stable at 10 mg but for some reason this symptom of being off balance has stayed with me. It started about two weeks after my drop to 7.5 and has gotten slightly better but it is still hanging on. i am not dizzy, I guess it is hard to explain, I just don't seem to have my balance back. Anyone with a similar story? Thanks

Re: off balance

29-30 months since my last dose of Paxil and the one symptom that has never really gone away completely is the off-balance disoriented thing that you're describing. It pops up again on me at least once every week or so for a short while.

I think others will agree that what you are feeling is something almost all of us have experienced. Its normal, at least as far as weaning/withdrawal goes.

Re: off balance

ME!!

This is very common and should subside for you. I had it off and on during my taper, nothing serious, but I felt like a real klutz sometimes!

Me too! I think the "term" for this symptom is VERTIGO to some extent.

Re: off balance

I had it something fierce at the beginning when I unwittingly cold turkeyed Paxil. Its happening in this benzo wean too but not to the severity of Paxil.

Focus your attention on the here and now. Recognize it for what it is: the one moment of the only life you will ever have that you truly possess. Rare is the individual who has come to completely accept that the past is no more than a memory and the future an assumption about unborn events.

Gosh, I hope it goes away. Actually, I think it's been getting better, now that I think of it. Knock on wood! (Where's that smiley!?!?!)

Re: off balance

There's actually difference between dizziness and vertigo. Dizzy, disoriented kind of explain themselves, vertigo is like having whatever you are looking at scroll past rapidly and repeatedly and the sensation usually doesn't stop if you close your eyes. Sorry this is the best I can explain vertigo, it's something you need to experience to really comprehend.

Yes, ME too, I have the dizziness, loss of balance most of the time, but it isn't scarey for me as in years past I have had several episodes of Labyrinthitis, malfunction in the inner ear which creates a permanent spinning effect, you can't stand up at all and it left me short of good balance for some years, your body learns to compensate eventually. I have had vertigo wake me at 4am but it seems to improve once I get up and start moving around, lol, then I only have to deal with the dizziness and balance issues.

Re: off balance

I had the dizziness big time in both w/ds, if I went into the mountains in turned into the vertigo, exactly as described above. And it all went away for me!

9 months later took 10 mg Paxil and my Xanax w/d dissapeared. On 20 mg by end. Pooped out on me. C/T then restarted it again after 3 days and big blow up. 6 months taper, never feeling much better. 2 1/2 years solid w/d then sporadic stuff for 5 years.

Completely recovered!

Re: off balance

Unfortunately one of the more common symptoms of withdrawal and yes even some 20 months down the road

Lets see now if I can describe them, there are several variations...
1) a sudden rush , like your going to pass out or black out
2) sudden rush, but a feeling like your going to fall sideways
3) a feeling like your head is inside a fishbowl full of water sloshing from left to right
4) sudden spinning, even though your standing still
5) general lightheadedness.
6) and of course constant tinnitus...background or very loud.. when loud.. a clear warning sign to expect some more "withdrawal symptoms"
..does this have to do with change in blood pressure?..well not for me.
But here is something interesting, when I feel my heart is no longer thumping and it sounds and feel normal and my ring on my ring finger is no longer lose, most of my symptoms have gone...so its related...somehow.

I know its related to issues with my inner ear.... its now mostly in my left ear.

Regards, Johnny

Re: off balance

Johnny I've always had tinnitus due to my inner ear issue but back then it was background mostly and using biofeedback I could block it out. Not any more, the day I started on paroxetine it became so loud that I am as good as deaf in my left ear and seriously annoyed with it. I've experienced all the above other than the fish bowl (#3), but like I said while it is inconvenient, it doesn't bother me I have already leant the ways to compensate for balance.
