prozac nausea

I'm back. After returning to Prozac at 40mg and feeling like a normal person again for a few weeks, I have started feeling tired, and drained with joint pain again. Also, now I have nausea all day long. Its hard to eat anything. After dropping from 170 to 155lbs during withdrawal, I will again be losing weight. I dont really care about that, I just want to not feel nauseus all the time. I cant function with this level of nausea. I am positive the prozac is causing it. I cut out caffiene and booze(Johnny Off Paxil), still feel like *ss.

Re: prozac nausea

When we go back on an antidepressant for the second time, it might not work for us again and get a complete opposite reaction than what we had the previous time.

It happened to me with Effexor XR in spring and summer of 2006 and had no choice but to discontinue it...

I lost 37 lbs in a very short time in the beginning of 2006 after the first withdrawal due to lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea etc.

What the nausea and the weight loss is concerned, I can relate. It's torture to try to eat with nausea. Try an anti-nausea agent and see if that helps.

Re: prozac nausea

Hi Johnny, I can't remember your history, so don't know how long you were on Prozac, how you stopped or why you restarted it. One possibility is you have some other illness such as a tummy bug or virus, but if not then it may be that you have reached poop-out on Prozac. It just doesn't work any more and you start feeling some w/d symptoms even while on your full dose. This seems to happen to some people when they stop and restart.

Nausea is a common start-up side effect of Prozac.

I hope you feel better soon.

Also, try to supplement your nutrients with a liquid supplement like Ensure-if you are able to tolerate liquids as opposed to solid foods.

Re: prozac nausea

You've only been back on for a few weeks and as lov said, this is a common side effect. Take ginger supplements, ginger tea, etc. for the nausea and see how you feel in a couple of weeks.

Re: prozac nausea

Ginger definately does the trick! I took it when i was preggos and it really helped me from throwing up. You can buy ginger candy to nibble on *chewy* at the health food store. It doesn't taste great but it does work the best
