Your doc shouldn't poo-poo your reaction. You live inside your body. You know what's happening in there.

From rxlist.com:

" Paroxetine metabolism is mediated in part by CYP2D6, and the metabolites are primarily excreted in the urine and to some extent in the feces. "

Re: How is Paxil excreted out of the body?

I know from personal experience that the body will sweat out SSRI's. I worked outside last summer all day long for 3 months. I couldn't hardly drink enough water. I was taking a steady dose of 10 mg and toward the end of the summer I went into extreme withdrawal and had to quit work.

I am sure that we sweat it out too! I have not read this but I sweat SOOOO much especially at night. I am sure my body is trying to get the poison out. I am going to look into this some more.

Re: How is Paxil excreted out of the body?

If there is any excreted in sweat(which I don't believe there is) it is minute compared to the other routes. VERY few items are excreted via sweat, contrary to popular belief from those who detox in heat based therapies. If anything sweating INCREASES the concentration of the drug in the system through dehydration....and then when you rehydrate you dilute that concentration again, which can cause withdrawal symptoms if you are especially sensitive.

Bottom line...stay consistently hydrated!

So I guess I just went into withdrawal for no reason? There was no other factor different in my life other than I was sweating bullets daily for months.

Basically that's correct. Withdrawal is totally random, with symptoms often seeming to strike out of the blue and with no apparent cause.

Re: How is Paxil excreted out of the body?

I am really interested in this post as I've just been searching through the site.
Yet again I have started with another stomach upset. This is ridiculous as I seem to be getting these every few weeks now.
I can only assume it must still be related to w/d?
It came on again yesterday, fairly quickly, starting with rumblings in my stomach. I now can't eat anything and am just trying to sip water.
My only consolation is imagining that this may still be the Paxil coming from my stomach, where it's supposed to have been stored???
Is this correct?

(I am 19 months off the drug)

Night sweats are a common side effect of Paxil. It has nothing to do with your body trying to get anything out.

That's funny. I was on different doses of a SSRI for 7 years and never experience withdrawal until I tried to get off of it. I think those of you that think your body won't sweat the medicine out are mistaken. I don't care what the "research" says. I had a personal experience. That's all the research I need. I'm not saying it sweats 100% out but it did enough to trigger a reaction in me. If you don't believe me, it's summer time, go out and try for yourself.

Re: How is Paxil excreted out of the body?

Actually, I tapered last summer which was miserable. There were days where I felt bad, but I don't believe it had anything to do with sweating.

If you were doing anything strenuous, which you obvioulsy were to be sweating bullets, that was more than likely the culprit than the actual sweating.

Just like most people can't do strenuous exercise during w/d either. All of your organs are working double time, which exacerbates w/d symptoms. This happens more in the summer because we're normally more active.

Also, heat and humidity make most people, meds or no meds, feel like crap. Now, throw in some w/d and it can just be nasty.

Re: How is Paxil excreted out of the body?

Yep! It's awful! I had night sweats so bad, my husband actually thought one of the dogs peed on the bed one night.

But again, this is side effect is actually in the packet insert for Paxil. Of course, it wasn't when I first started taking Paxil in 1997. It got added over the years. I use to complain, for 3-4 years straight, about night sweats. One day, my doc finally says, "Yeah, we've found out this is a side effect of Paxil."
