Breastfeeding while on Paxil

I was put on Paxil after my son was born (initially the doctor put me on Prozac but I asked him to change it to Paxil, since I read in a breastfeeding expert's book that less paxil gets into the mother's milk than Prozac).

So in all the materials that I have read, it says that Paxil is one of the safer SSRIs to take while breastfeeding. Now looking back I wonder if I have done more harm than good and could there be any long-term behavioural problems with my son because I took Paxil while breastfeeding.

Re: Breastfeeding while on Paxil

I nursed while on paxil. And, I quit paxil (suddenly) while nursing. By that time, I was only nursing Kate a couple of times a day. I definitely saw her go through a bit of withdrawal short-term. Considering that horrible state I was in at that time myself, it is definitely note-worthy that I could tell anything about her having a hard time. So, there is no question in my mind that babies get paxil in breastmilk--enough to make a difference.

Having said that, Kate has no issues at all with learning or behavior. I see no long-term effects with her at all.
