Retinal Tear (Vision Problems)

I had floaters appear in both of my eyes back in February. Well, I went to the ophthalmologist today and he found a retinal tear in my right eye... it was very surprising and scary. He immediately performed laser surgery on it and repaired the tear, but is it normal for someone my age (27) to have retinal tears? How could this have happened? He said nearsighted people are more prone to it (which I am), but this is very perplexing and troubling. I hope I won't have more of these in the future as my vision is already clouded with floaters.

Re: Retinal Tear (Vision Problems)

Well, if it's something that's common with near sighted folks, there's not much you can do about it. It's something that's obviously easily fixed and nothing your opthamologist seemed concerned with, so don't freak yourself out over it.

Re: Retinal Tear (Vision Problems)

Yes, but these appeared when I stopped taking Saw Palmetto extract. The doc said it had nothing to do with it. No other health condition such as glaucoma/diabetes/etc is present.

Re: Retinal Tear (Vision Problems)

It's a good thing that you had that checked out, I probably would have just related it to the Paxil w/d. Glad that you are ok!
