Can anyone explain please?

Hi

Can anyone explain to me what causes the body rushes/whooshes, why do they seem to come out of nowhere and are they dangerous? I find them one of the most scary side effects.

Thanks

Tammi

I don't know what causes them, but I do know they're not dangerous at all. They sure are weird, though, aren't they!

Re: Can anyone explain please?

Weird is the right word for them. Don't need to waste money on a ticket to Six Flags when you can have zaps and whooshes for free. I am still getting them when I stand up and I have nearly been off for a year.

Re: Can anyone explain please?

I can't explain them either, but as scary as they feel, the will not hurt you!

Hugs...I feel for you...those zaps and whooses were very intense and distressing for me!

Re: Can anyone explain please?

Hi

Thanks for that. I am reducing from 10mg Lexapro since May - got down to about 3 or 4mg and all hell seems to have broke loose - anxiety, rushes, the runs etc. My doc suggested I go back up to 5mg stabalise over a month or more then try again, so that is what I did the night before last. The anxiety is worse today. He also said I probably have a virus!!! I hate these SSRI's was on paxil before, who says they are not addictive!

Re: Can anyone explain please?

Tammy what is your med history?

You were on Paxil before???

You seem to be dropping too much, too quickly...what has your tapring schedule been like?

Your doc could be right in going back up to 5mg and stabilize....then start again, but slowly and smallr drops in dosage.

WD is a slow process and the slower the better in terms of minimizing symptoms...

Re: Can anyone explain please?

I was on paxil about 3 times over a 5 year period. Weaned very very slowly and managed to stay off any meds for about a year. This is my second time on Lexapro, I started last August and was on 10mg until I decided to try and get off again in May. I only managed to stay off Lexapro for the three months after the first time. I have now gone back up to 5mg so will stabalise for a while and then reduce much slower. I suffer from health anxiety so any side effect sends my imagination into overdrive!

Re: Can anyone explain please?

if u look up how ssri's work u'll find out why this happens. When ur trying to w/d and rebalance sometimes those transmitters don't work as quickly as they should in some areas...thus getting the weird symptoms.

Re: Can anyone explain please?

No they aren't dangerous. I freaked out when I first got them but I wish that was my only symptom I ever had in withdrawal.

This is as good as explanation as any for the autonomic nervous system instability that is antidepressant withdrawal syndrome.

Re: Can anyone explain please?

Thank you all for your imput. I know that I don't take part very much in this forum, but believe me I am on here more than once a day. It has been, and still is enormously helpful to me and thank you all very much. I have now upped my lexapro dose back to 5mg, and the rushes seemed to have amost gone, I now have anxiety, but I guess that will go as I stabalise. I shall stay on 5mg for at least a month.

Re: Can anyone explain please?

I'll tell you I would have traded the anxiety for those wooshes...that is how bad mine are...but take it as it comes.

Those anxiety feelings are also WD related, so stay on 5 mgs and see how you feel in the next four weeks....don't give yourself a time line...if you feel good and stable, then drop....ever so small drops.....it really does help minimize the symptoms.
