help!

I've been frequenting this board for a while and finally decided to start a liquid taper after many tries of tapering with the pills which did not work. I was following the taper spreadsheet on this site; i'm on 20mg so i started taking the equivvalent dose in the liquid. I did this for like 4days and had no problems with the liquid.
Then i went down to 18mg and guess what, several days later boom i start feeling weird, that kind of weird that feels like the beginning of withdrawal, then the diarrhea and nausea. my question is how can this be that i'm experiencing withdrawal just by going down 10%!!!! and now what do i do? thanx

Re: help!

Hi Slinky
10% is the general reduction plan, and might be too much for you. You definitely don't want to be suffering from your tapers. Maybe you could do a smaller percentage; maybe try 8% instead of 10.

Listen to your body and how it's responding to the drops; it'll tell you what it can or cannot handle. Others will chime in to offer their advice as well.

All the Best

Re: help!

From what I've read on here and what Roxy tells me, it is not uncommon. She feels it a few days after her drop and it lasts for a while. She is on a very slow taper to avoid these feelings and is also using liquid. Best of luck.

Re: help!

Slinky,

This happened to me too, the w/d symptoms usually come in stages...it will get better. You know your body best so if you feel like this is too much of a drop, go slower or stay at a particular dose longer. This is not a race, take all the time you need. This will get better, I promise.

Re: help!

Slinky-

There is nothing that requires you to drop 10% at a time. For some (myself included) 10% at a time was simply just too much of a drop. If it were me, Id try 5% and see if things were better.

Remember the often repeated words on this site......the goal is to taper off the drug as confortably as possible. If this means going slowly, so be it.

Re: help!

thank you all so much for all your answers; it's just so frustrating! and I feel like I'm addicted to this stuff and dependent on it, it sux

but i am going to take the advice of going slower on the taper because i can't handle the withdrawal symptoms even for like a few days, i just feel too spacey and strange, so i basically just went back up to 20mg and am going to stay at that for a few days then restart the taper slower.
that spreadsheet is awesome btw, thanx to whoever put that up

Re: help!

oh i have another question; anyone know where to get a really accurate syringe cz i don't think the one i was using was cutting it; the pharmacist gave me some syringe but it's only whole numbers and i'm going to need one that has the halfway mark so I can taper more slowly now
thanx everyone again

Re: help!

Each tiny line is .1 milliliters. The longer line is 1 milliliter.

All syringes (that I've ever seen) only have whole numbers. If you're not sure how to measure, be sure to go to the pharmacist and ask.

Re: help!

Slinky, get a standard syringe(no needle required), not the oral ones that they usually hand out.

On this size syringe the little lines are .2ml. As you need more specific and tinier gradiations, a smaller syringe will work better...say a 3ml total volume syringe.

Re: help!

As Laurie says, if you are in any doubt get the Pharacist to show you exactly how to measure the liquid. It does take a bit of getting used to but in the end it's so much easier and accurate than chipping the tablets. Oh and do be sure and shake the bottle really, really well before you measure your dose.

Re: help!

slinky -- I had the same thing when I tried to taper my first time. This time I went to 6% tapers and the w/d symptoms are much reduced (no nausea or dizziness at all). Like everyone has said, sometimes 10% is just too much.

Re: help!

Another bit of advice--shake that bottle VERY well! Otherwise, the dosage will be inconsistent. And, as someone else mentioned, you may have withdrawal symptoms for just a few days before you stablize. Don't panic because you feel something. Definitely taper by smaller amounts, but don't expect yourself to be symptom-free. After your first couple of tapers, you should know what to expect and be able to time your withdrawal issues to hit hardest on the days that you can be at home.

Re: help!

wow thank you all so much again; i don't know what i'd do without this board.

i'm def going to get that syringe; the other thing i was wondering is can i cut my 20mg tabs in half so that's 10mg then take the remainder (9mg) =4.5ml of liquid so at least i know i'm getting a solid 10mg , just cz i worry about mixing the liquid and not getting an accurate dose.

thank you everyone!

Some have done this with no problems...other's have felt the difference. You can always try and see how it goes.

Re: help!

Hey Slinky! I think Liquid is the way to go, for me at least. I was chipping pills for awhile, but was never sure it was consistant. Follow the advice given, shake that bottle like mad! I didnt do that very well for about 2 days, and paid the price (terrible anxiety and diarreah). I started tapering with liquid at 25 mg, and realized I can NOT go any faster than .5-1mg at a time, which is just fine. I have learned the pattern of w/d within my body now, and know what to expect, and for how long. (for now!) DOnt be scared of your feelings, follow your body and brain. Good luck!
