The liquid paxil thing

I am on 20 mgs right now and waiting to stabilize.

(I am also starting on the LMS program as of today)

My question is about when I start to taper....(which after going way to fast, I am in no rush to do!)

I had thought I could cut my 30's in half and go to 15 from 20 for a while....

then down to 10, etc.

No?

If I do end up going to the liquid, is it hard to adjust from pill to liquid? I am one of those people who can't take generic Paxil so I am worried about going from pill 20 to liquid 20 and downward...

How do you make sure you are getting 20mgs in the liquid form? Isn't there a chance of not getting exactly the right amount in the liquid?

Thanks so much,
Dawnie

Dawnie, I wouldn't taper that fast. I did the LMS program too and even LMS doesn't recommend that fast of a taper.

For most, there's no problem going from pill to liquid, but there are some who have trouble. It would be much easier for you to taper using liquid.

You can get a syringe from your pharmacist, when you pick up your script, and they'll explain how to use it and measure the proper dosage.

You should only taper 10% every few weeks, by the way.

Laurie...

Did you go with the liquid or compounding?

If you switch to liquid, should one stay at the current dose of the pill?
(Like if I am on 20mgs pill form, should I go to 20 liquid for a while or go right to 18mg?)

Re: The liquid paxil thing

BTW...I anwered your post on the other forum too

I compounded. I'm a little math stupid and not measuring properly is what brought me here to begin with

I actually jumped from 20 to 30 mgs, at first. Then, dropped from 30 to 5 mgs in about 3 weeks! Don't ask....I still can't believe I was that dumb.

Anyway, when I tapered this time, I had my pills compounded in the 10% increments.

Don't let my story scare you - the majority of people taper using liquid. I'm the exception to the rule.

Re: The liquid paxil thing

HI! I went straight from the pill to the liquid, stayed at the same dose, then tapered from there. I had NO problem at all switching, and its so much easier to measure. I, too, have always done brand name, no generic. Good luck!

Re: The liquid paxil thing

Some are able to take both the liquid and tablets at the same time to add up to their total dose. Example cut a 20mg tablet in half, then 2 mgs liquid to come to a total of 12 mgs etc.

Dawnie,

If you go from 20mg Paxil pill to the exact equivelant in liquid form and you get an oral syringe to dispense the liquid then you will be getting a very accurate dose. Just be sure to shake the bottle very well each time before you measure. Very few people have any problems changing over to the liquid.

The beauty of the liquid Paxil is that you can wean the 10% very accurately. It is very hard for those of us cutting tablets (me!!) to get them to that precision and infact I have managed to mess myself up badly this week by literally snapping a 30mg in two to get my 15mgs. You wouldn't think it were possible but just get the knife a fraction to the left or right and you are talking about a 1 or 2mg difference and boy did I feel it!!

Good luck with the liquid Paxil and keep us posted.
