I have started my Doxepin taper. Need info

I have been on doxepin for, well, along time. I was on xanax for 20+ years and finished a long taper in late September. I am benzo free. A couple weeks ago I started my taper from 100mg of doxepin. In a little over two weeks I went from 100mgs to 85. I am thinking that might have beena little fast. I didn't sleep well last night, awoke witha headache, and I never get headaches and felling out of sorts today.

To start with, whats a good taper rate and what are some of the symptoms of w/d from doxepin. Whatever I am feeling it is different from when I was coming off a benzo. I am thinking I should cut about 10% every 3 weeks or so. Recommendations?

I have been on this stuff to long, but it was because the doctors had me thinking I was broke. Hopefully I can get off the doxepin. I hope being on it 25 years has not doomed my brain to needing it the rest of my life. I know it is the cause for the extra bit of weight I have around my belt and may be affecting me in other ways.

If anyone out there has tapered off doxepin or is in the process I'd like to hear from you. Thanks much. Pokey

Hi Pokey,

I initially tapered Doxepin from 10mg to around 7mg before I decided to focus on the other meds to taper. Right now, I am just on Remeron and the Doxepin and am focusing on the Remeron taper.

A good tapering rate is 10% every 3 to 6 weeks. As I am around 2.6 mg on the Remeron, I have to had to reduce the tapering rate to 5%.

My symptoms are agitation and total lack of focus. Probably other symptoms but it hard for me to name them.

My situation is nowhere as bad as yours so I hope I have helped.

Palm- Thanks for the info. I wouldn't say my situtation is "bad", I'm just on a higer dose. They give up to 300mg of this stuff to people. HOw do you cut a 10mg cap, that is the smallest they make. Are you weighing it or pouring it out and approximating? Pokey

Yup, I am weighing it. I take powder out very gradually until I get the right amount.
