just a thought!!

Hi Guys,

Since March of this year to the present day I have lost 42lb of what i would call paxil weight. The reason being i was never overweight at all until paxil, so i attributed this weight gain to the poison.

The reason for my writing is i have just read that ssri's are stored in the fat, is this significant weight loss my bodys way of getting the poison out of my system, is this the reason we all have issues in w/d and after with appetite loss or gain? in my case it was mainly loss.

For all of you who worry about paxil weight - i would like to reassure you it will come off, for some its quicker than others, so please dont worry about it, its only temporary, when the drug fades from our systems so does the added weight, thats my theory anyhow.

Since the loss of weight, ( i hardly dare say this, but fingers crossed) reduction in symptoms !!! still suffer occasional anxiety, no panic attacks phew, toilet issues getting better, but now get increasing headaches, i am able to go out although not alone, my lack of motivation on some days can really be quite good, and i sleep all night, LONG MAY IT LAST.
I still have occasional weepy days - but nowhere as bad as before.

I will continue to taper, i am using the tweezers, so not really sure what dosage i am on, except the pill is getting smaller, and i am feeling better.

I hope this gives hope to all struggling so hard with w/d, i know, i been there since 2005, things do get better.

Re: just a thought!!

thanks for the reassurance about losing weight. yesterday, i made the mistake of looking through old photo albums. in the years before antidepressants not only was i not fat i was downright skinny! i'm so sick of having to reintroduce myself to people who haven't seen me in years and don't recognize me.
i did taper way too fast (it was before i found pp.org). but it has now been 6 months off a/d s and not a pound. however, i have not gained and for that i really am thankful.

Re: just a thought!!

I gained like 10 kg while on paxil, me also being a bit skinny all my life, people would say hey...your looking really good, HEALTHY!....???????..uh, I hated it....! Maybe looking healthy, but inside no such feeling at the time......Anyway, around the 10 mg taper till the big ZERO, the weight was coming off real quick.....by summer this year, i was back in my bikini's and NO big belly hanging over there anymore!!!! It was ALL Paxil, not me being 41 and in denial of a body change at my age....funny!
If the weigth loss has anything to do with reduction of symptoms....I wouldn't know!. Loosing weigth is wonderfull, experiencing less syptoms is wonderfull too!(and would be a really big christmas present)

Anjo, good luck with your taper, you're doing just fine!

Re: just a thought!!

Thanks to all who replied, and yes to see the weight come off is a great achievement after being paxil fat for such a lot of yrs.

Some weeks i can feel great improvement in symptoms, but still not all plain sailing as those further along in tapering and off completely will acknowledge.

But i do really feel i am getting better overall and thats all that matters.

I really only wanted to say, to those still suggering from ( please excuse the pun) Paxil Fat, it will come off, just some have a quicker burn off than others.
I think for me,its been a horrible, cruel w/d and its symptoms, but hey i wont be long before i am done, and i could end up thinner than i was before paxil, wooppee, good luck to all my pp mates.
