Home-made pills and airport security

Since LarryJ was so extremely kind as to give me his scale, I've been opening up Prozac capsules, measuring out powder, and putting it in empty, store-bought capsules. Does anybody know if these could cause problems were I to pack them with me on a plane trip?

Thanks.

Re: Home-made pills and airport security

I don't really have an answer for you but I know when my husband and I flew, security didn't seem interested in our gobs of perscriptions. I would bet that if you take your home made pills and put them back in the original pharmacy bottle, security wouldn't know the difference anyway.

Re: Home-made pills and airport security

The only time I would be worried about it is going through customs and, even then, like CarolLee mentioned, putting them in the original pharmacy bottle should solve that.

I agree with the others...but as a frequent flyer, I suggest you keep the important meds in your carry or on your person...lost luggage means lost meds....

Re: Home-made pills and airport security

I'm having a lot of trouble convincing my parents that this will be feasible. Does anyone know the legality of doing this? Would security be able to seize the pills if they opened the bottle and saw mysterious white powder in capsules?

Thanks for any input.

Re: Home-made pills and airport security

I really don't think it'll be a problem. Put the pills in containers and clearly mark what's on them. We bring ibuprofen through airport security all the time, in old prescription bottles with the labels washed off and "IBUPROFEN" in black sharpie. Never had an issue.

Honestly, I really doubt security will even bat an eyelash. I travel all the time for work and have never once had a TSA guy look at any of my medication (I currently take 3 pills and 2 inhalers daily). I even carry them in one of those daily pill carriers, not even in their original prescription bottles (naughty me) and they don't look twice.

They're looking for bottled water, shoes, and plastique, not peoples' medications.

Re: Home-made pills and airport security

I agree. I would think it would be way too time consuming for them to go through people's perscription bottles. Seems like it would also be a violation of some health code.

Are you working with a physician on the tapering? If so, just have them make out a letter to keep with you explaining the "reduced dosage" pills. Not that I think it is necessary but hey, if it will ease your mind . . .

Thanks, that seems like a good idea.

Heh, I'm not worried about it, just looking to get my parents off my back.
