Does Paxil make you sleep.

Cannot remember if I did this before or just the years I have been on paxil. I can go to sleep and sleep for 10 hours get up feel tired still sleep another ten hours (all straight sleep) get up for an hour sleep another ten or so hours and so on. I work nights so I know that is one factor but anyone else sleep forever on paxil?

Yep. Very common and well known side effect.

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

Yes, but if you slow taper as your dose comes down you will gradually become less drowsy and more alert. If you c/t, you may find you go to the opposite extreme - severe insomnia.

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

Excessive sleeping was why I went off paxil.

I actually had a diagnosis of hypersomnia (sleeping too much) before I went on paxil, but initially paxil made me slightly better and more alert. But over the years, what I thought was my previous condition came back but got increasingly worse than I'd ever imagined. I was sleeping up to 16 hours a day and still sleepy and groggy. I told doctors it wasn't restful sleep - more like being "drugged." Little did I know that I actually was "drugged" until my doctor suggested increasing my paxil dose, and that made me much worse.

I had already been so worried at how my sleepiness was increasing (even loud bell alarms couldn't wake me; I felt like I was anesthetized) that I honestly felt that if it got any worse I wouldn't be able to take care of myself. I didn't get that way right away; it was gradual and I don't remember when it started.

That's when I tapered off paxil, but Songbird is right - you must do a slow taper or you'll go to the opposite extreme and be unable to sleep or sleep through the night. I learned too late that what I thought was a slow taper was akin to cold turkey. Go slow!

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

Back when Paxil was still working for me I could actually sleep 48 hours straight, no problem. I would just wake up to eat and go to the bathroom and head right back to sleep. It would drive my wife nuts!

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

My hubby and I almost spilt up over this problem. I was spending most of the day in bed, including at the weekend. We could never go anywhere as a family because of it and he used to get so upset. All our friends with little ones used to take their kids to the park, zoo, and other fun things, and I would be in my pit snoring and they would wait around for me to get up. I had no idea that paxhell was the cause of it. Paxhell robbed me of so much time with my kids. I am vey lucky it didn't rob me of my family.

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

Yes Paxil made me sleep more. I could easily sleep 2-3 hours on Saturday afternoon and have no problem falling asleep at 10pm. I did that most weekends. Since I've been tapering this has changed. I am not as sleepy as before.

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

Yep, another paxil induced super sleeper here! I'm just now, within the last week or so, waking up after a normal (7 hours) length of sleep. It's a great feeling. I could sleep for days on Paxil.

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

I used to take 3 or 4 hour naps every Saturday and Sunday and would take a very long nap on every day that we had school breaks. Now I don't nap at all and sleep about 7 hours a night. It makes a huge difference when you get off of Paxil.

Re: Does Paxil make you sleep.

My sleep pattern was just like yours. Excess sleep like others was one of the main factors for my getting of paxil. I was sleeping my life away !
