Why didn't I find this site sooner?

My props to whom ever started this site and I hope it is just what I need to get myself back. My name is Chris and I've been on Paxil for around 10 years. I honestly could not give a reason as to what I was expecting from a little pill. I do have depression and anxiety that runs in my family and was around 25 when I decided I needed to see a doctor and If there was anything to help me. Finding this site is a God send for me. Doctors have no Idea about getting off of this and what is in store for someone who is ready to try life without Paxil. I tried in 2002 when I moved to wean myself off and WOW what a hellish experience that was. 3 full days of no sleep, no eating and terrible thoughts. I found a new doctor and started Paxil again. I just figured I was doomed to a life of dependency on Paxil. Well it's been almost 7 years since then and I am ready to give a go again. Actually in the process now and am down to 10 mgs from 30 mgs in about 2 months. Last week it started to creep up on me with bad feelings, irritability, loss of appetite, etc.... Which led me to here. Thank you for being here and being people who know what it's like(not that I would wish this on anyone). I almost fell into the realization that I was all alone in this. I am going to make a Dr. Appt this week and get back up to 20 mgs on the liquid. I also am going to follow the 10% taper method. I don't care how long it takes to do this as long as I get it done. I am inspired by this site and those who have done it. Now it's MY TIME !

Thanks ~Chris

Welcome, Chris! I'm glad you found us. I'm another long time user and my first attempt at quitting was a disaster, like yours. I finally succeeded on my third attempt and have been Paxil-free for going on 4 years now. You will do fine if you take your time tapering and listen to your body.

Re: Why didn't I find this site sooner?

I'm sorry you ended up on this an additional 7 years because of the WD symptoms. It's hard when you don't know what's happening to you and can't get any advice from anyone. Bad things happen -- like an additional 7 years. I'm almost 3 years off Paxil and only in the past couple of months am I really starting to get some of myself back again, and I CT'd, so you definitely don't want to do that. Welcome, good luck, and I'm glad you're doing this the right way. This site is a life saver. Withdrawal is a very lonely thing on the outside. I've only run into a couple of people here and there offline who have gone through something of a bad time with these drugs. Others can't believe it's that bad. Of course, most of those people are still on one of these drugs and they don't get it.

Hi mytime and welcome.
"Why didn't I find this site sooner? "
May I ask you how did you find this site?
I for one am curious I regret the years and greif I could have saved myself if I had the information on this site sooner. So I leave links to it when I visit other sites and talk about it all the time. Yes I have my own agenda of getting this information to people it could save.

Re: Why didn't I find this site sooner?

my time,
Welcome to PP!
If you decide to go back up in dose, you might want to use the med you've been using all along. A few people have trouble with the liquid and you'll be able to tell what is caused from what better if you make the first change with what you've been using, that is just my suggestion, You have to make that decision for yourself.

Moving back up in dose a bit sounds like a realistic thing for you to do. You might want to try 15 mgs first and see how that does for you. That could be enough for you to stabilize again, and if not youc an move up to the 20 mg.

Take care!
Betsy
