does ssri's cause hypersensitivity

I wondered because i do have hypersensitivity because i'm autistic, and i think if i can remember, i may be wrong but i think before i ever took an SSRI i had some hypersensitivity, but i wondered that if you take the medicine and then when you quit it either cold turkley or slow taper, van you get even more hypersensitive, i'm so bad right now about my arm or body getting air blown on it that i just snap! can't even just sit in a chair! Anyone know if this is true, if you have had these experiences please explain.

Hi Shane,

Initially I thought my sensory issues were due to my LD. But I am convinced that the meds made whatever sensory issues I have alot worse.

Also, as my signature indicates, I feel that meds greatly worsened my LD issues. So it is definitely possible that meds did that with the sensory issues you have from autism.

Hi Shane,

I can say for sure that for me withdrawal from Celexa caused me to be hypersensitive to touch (specifically people hugging me.) It didn't last very long though.

Take care,

Squidgy

Akathisia, severe dissociation, etc... Put on Propranolol, Valium and Ativan for akathisia. May 2009-On 5mg Propranolol, and Valium, and tapering the latter. (Also took short courses of other drugs during these reactions.)

Re: does ssri's cause hypersensitivity

Yes, w/d can cause hypersensitivity to sound, light, smell and touch. Last year when I was in severe w/d I became hypersensitive to smell. Going to the supermarket was awful, the reek from the meat cabinets was unbearable. Taking the kids to school I could hardly stand to be in the classroom because of the overpowering smell of the perfume the other mums were wearing. Normally I wouldn't even notice these things.
