I started on Paxil a couple of weeks ago and in the past week or so I have had a terrible taste in my mouth and most food tastes really bad. It seems to be less of a problem in the morning and worsens as the day goes on. I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

Paxil and taste
I don't remember ever having a problem with taste when I started paxil, but then that was several years ago. I imagine everyone has different side effects, and that may be one of yours. I always just got a bad headache when I started on this stuff, also got them every time my doctor increased my dosage. I also hope you have been reading in this website as so many of us are having problems with bad withdrawals from this paxil. Not trying to scare you but please be careful and read up on this drug. Good luck to you.

I am going to talk to my doctor tomorrow and if she says that this is a side effect of Paxil, then I am going to ask her to help me get off it. I really don't want to be on anything anymore. I was on Effexor for more than a year before Paxil and I would like to see how I would do without any help.

I can remember back to when I first started taking paxil (7 yrs ago)
I didn't have a bad taste but I had a very dry mouth and all food tasted like straw. I have been off Paxil for just over a month now and am going thru some of the withdrawal symptoms. I would advise you to ensure you do get lots of info from your doctor and keep asking questions. Talking to a counsellor or just keeping in touch with this group is a real good idea too Good luck to you |

Strange taste
Hi, marash50--is the bad taste you have anything like a metallic taste? I've had a metallic taste.

Goodbye taste
Paxil takes the flavor and edge off of everything. Your emotions (which can be helpful), but then there's your sex drive, the way food tastes, and your ability to really enjoy things you were passionate about before. If you were an artist or writer, you can say goodbye to your creativity and inspiration. BUT HEY! At least the anxiety is gone, huh? All SSRI's are a trade off. I've known people with REAL SERIOUS seratonin problems... like Tourette's Syndrome, who decided they'd prefer the symptoms to losing life's flavors to some stupid SSRI.
