is ANYONE studying the long term effects?

Is anyone studying the longterm effects of these drugs? Anyone at all?

Is it because it's a taboo to have someone on SSRIs for years? Do most people use them for a short amount of time and don't restart, so don't suffer?

Time on doesn't appear to have a huge effect on how one experiences withdrawal. The taboo comes that if they research the long term effects and find what we have found, then their "safe and effective" marketing gets called into question.

Re: is ANYONE studying the long term effects?

i dont think its taboo to have people on ssri's for years, certainly not here in england. i was on them for about 10 years and still no others that have been taking from anything between 5 to 15 years. it is beyond all belief and logic that the medical community can do this to people considering most of these drugs were only tested in clinical trials that lasted no more than 12 weeks or so. the fact that people like us get totally ignored when we tell these professionals what the long term consequences are is utterly ridiculous, unprofessional and irresponsible. when i had quite severe homicidal ideation a little earlier in withdrawal and most of those thoughts were aimed at my ex-psychiatrist, somebody said to me that they didnt think that those thoughts were totally unjustified considering what had happened to me, but maybe the level of intensity was a little over the top.

Re: is ANYONE studying the long term effects?

Withdrawal syndrome can enhance feelings of depression, rage, etc.

Rage is a perfectly normal animal response to injury.
