Fertility Question

Does long-term paxil use cause or contribute to infertility in women? I've been off of SSRIs for over 2 years and have been trying to get pregnant for almost one year and no luck yet. So I was just curious. Anyone have any info on this? Or has anyone successfully gotten pregnant since discontinuing Paxil?

I can find a bunch of articles about Paxil and other SSRI's contributing to male infertility, but nothing about females. Matter of fact, I know a woman who got pregnant after stopping Paxil. She had also taken some others before that, Prozac was one I think.

It is common for it to take months to get pregnant after beginning the trying process. If it takes longer than six months, you should talk to your OB/GYN about it. If you haven't already, I highly recommend those pee on a stick ovulation predictors. They work like a champ at pinpointing the one day a month that you are fertile!

I also recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It's a great method both for birth control and getting pregnant: you learn to know when you are fertile. I have been using it successfully for birth control for 5 years; hopefully once I am off Paxil I will be able to get pregnant quickly since I know exactly when I am most fertile. Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone. Yes I've been to my ob/gyn and had a few tests. Mostly all fine except progesterone slightly low. I'm trying accupuncture and will just keep hoping. Thanks again!!

Have they prescribed you any progesterone suppositories or anything?

Thanks!! ksummer __________________ FINALLY FREE put on paxil 1994 -stopped with no w/d 1996 back on 1998 - two unsuccessful tapers tapered off and last dose of paxil poison Oct. 12 2006 tapered prozac (took to get off paxil) Feb. 2007 tapered klonopin (took due to w/d) April 2008
