SSRI WEIGHT GAIN / DHEA

I picked up some DHEA the day Liquidsharp suggested it reverses SSRI weight gain by improving the balance between DHEA and Cortisol.

I looked it up before taking it, however, and see nothing but WARNING after WARNING. Don't take if you're under 40. Don't take if you're taking other hormones (birth control would be included I'm sure). Don't take unless a doctor first tests your DHEA levels. Don't take if you're capable of having children.

So what is all this? Obviously I wasted my 17 bucks on something I can't take, and although I don't blame any of you I'd really like to see something online that connects DHEA and SSRI weight gain.

Just like many of you, I gained 50 pounds + on Paxil and never knew why I was getting fat. Now I've been overweight from age 25-31, which can really get in the way of dating!

So if anybody knows how safe DHEA is, or knows anything about reversing SSRI weight gain, I'd really like to hear from you.

I don't know a thing about DHEA but this I do know. The only way I'm going to get rid of my 30lbs from Paxil is to diet and exercise. There is no magic cure for losing weight. I start Weight Watchers tomorrow and will hit the treadmill.

I'm going to get this chub off my body by the end of May!!

losing the paxil pounds

Pilates helped me to lose those extra pounds. Do you have a health club or gym nearby that offers Pilates?

No biggie

I have some fogey old parents who take the stuff because it's marketed for anti-aging. I'll just give it to them.

Also my psyche seems pretty up-to-the-minute on psychopharmacology so I'll ask her about all the GNC supplements I've piled up.

I think the weight gain can be addressed with diet and exercise, but lets not forget it was caused by a physiological change in our bodies. SSRI's affected our metabolism negatively, so any info on the how's and why's of that will help.

I never had eating habits deserving of the 50 pounds that piled onto my fat ***.

Hey, my big old fogey *** is bigger than yours, I'd bet! My weight gain has been shocking, to say the least. I've exercised, kept a healthful diet and STILL, the gain just keeps on piling on. I've gained about 50 pounds and it's SO unhealthy, not to mention I'm trapped in this fat body!

I'm still reducing my dosage and hope that one day I'll be able to lose the extra pounds. Funny how weight gain isn't mentioned as a side effect.

Sue (where's that little fat smiley icon when I need it?)

i bet ive got ya all beat. i gained 70 lbs. and in only 6 months. you could practically watch me swell up from the moment i started taking paxil. and i have been off it for three+ months and i havent lost one pound.
it didint go to my *** though. its all in my gut. i look pregnant. at around age thirty i watched all my friends get their guts and i sorta made fun of them. now here i am the biggest one in the group. its my experience that post paxil the weight doesnt just magically come off. just like with anything in life it takes work. oh, unless you take a magical wonder pill that will do the work for you.

those m----- f------ at gsk better be glad i dont own my own 747. cause on a sunday afternoon when their corporate headquarters was good and empty i would . . . . . . .

youre g-- d----- right i would

justdanny,

You me and a bunch of other fat asses would just love to ram GSK's building.

Regarding weight: I've been off Paxil for 2 months, haven't lost any yet BUT I didn't gain over xmas when I was eating goodies like a little piggy

Started Weight Watchers today!! Gonna take that 30 Paxil pounds off my body. Its everywhere!! I have 6 pairs of pants in the closet I can't wear!! And I'll be damned if I'm going to buy another pair of fat-*** jeans when the 2 pair I own fall apart!

OMG!!!!! I am laughing ... laughing ... laughing....

OMG!! I am laughing my *** off .. I wish <grin> I too have gained hella weight, and I HATE IT!!!!!! I worked very hard to have gotten where I was, and now what???!!! I needed a great laugh....and the fat *** thing just did it for me! I love the comment about having pants in the closet that are too small and being damned to buying other ones until the 2 you have split apart....I mean...I am laughing as I write this!!! Anyway, thanks..I NEEDED IT! I hadn't been on this board in months, and thought I'd come see what's been going on, as I am getting ready to cut down with the Liquid Paxil, 1 mg at a time...so I'm a bit sketchy. Have a good evening all!

Tara I agree with that you are saying...my eating habits over the last year did not cause an increase in my weight of about 30 pounds. It's interesting, because I don't think I really started gaining weight with paxil until my dose was upped to 30 mg. Then I gained the weight in a period of about 7 months...and my eating habits did not change...if anything I was "eating less".

But the good news is that the weight does start to come off post paxil...of course I am walking and doing yoga which may be helping as well...but I am now eating three meals a day...and sometimes even snacking and the weight is coming off. It's only about 10 pounds thus far...but I know I will get back to where I was before...and it's nice to be able to do up a pair of jeans that I couldn't a month ago!
