Re: no withdrawal symptoms

For me it took not less than 6 weeks after quitting cold-turkey from 10 mg for the w/d kicked in. During those 6 weeks I was completely free of symtoms and had no idea of the hell awaiting me. When I found this site it was too late to reinstate, but I am doing a lot better now after 27 months.
Cold turkey is the toughest and possibly longest way to come off PAxil, just don't do it! Tapering with 10% per months is the better option. If you stopped CT, just get back to your last dose and taper!

Re: no withdrawal symptoms

I'm not kidding, and think of it! Withdrawal has NOTHING to do with the drug still being on your system. You are making the classical mistake of thinking that the symtoms occur due to the presence of the drug. NO NO NO the w/d starts when the brain detects that the drug is no more there!!! And it cannot function properly anymore without the drug. THAT IS WHY THERE IS SUCH A THING AS ADDICTION!!!
So don't be silly or stupid, go back and taper or you will be heading for the ride of your life!

Welcome to paxilprogress!

No...SSRIs don't work like that. These drugs make chemical changes to your brain and it can take several weeks before you start feeling withdrawal symptoms. It has nothing to do with it "being out of your system."

What dose were you on, for how long, and did you stop cold turkey?

Re: no withdrawal symptoms

Well... good luck! I hope you belong to the lucky ones who can quit CT without problems!
But "not being afraid" of w/d won't save you from it, I was also pretty sure I could do it... but I wanr you one time more that CT withdrawal CAN be an entry to a hellish rollercoaster that keeps riding for years without the possibiliy to brake or get out... I was still lucky having a loving family mamber and some financial spare, otherwise I probably would not have made it out alive.
By the way I felt like King of the World in my first weeks after CT...

Re: no withdrawal symptoms

I hope you are one of the lucky ones who have no withdrawal symptoms. You probably won't find any of those lucky people on this board though.

If you do a search for "Cold Turkey" you'll probably find several threads that started similar to yours and ended with "You were right, I'm reinstating because I'm in H***" And H*** doesn't always end by taking one pill, it can take weeks, months or not work at all. People lose their jobs, end up in emergency rooms or hospitalized...the list could go on.

I’m not trying to scare you, just inform you of the possibilities. This may be irrelevant to you, especially if you only took Paxil for a short time and at a small dose. However, even THAT is no guarantee.

Just curious, why you sought out this information if you have no fear of withdrawal and are having no ill effects now?

Best of luck to you.

Re: no withdrawal symptoms

Some people don't have problems just stopping. I personally know people that did not experience what I know as withdrawal. Even if they took the drug for awhile. But then again many do.

Now I would say most people don't have any problem just stopping if they only took the drug for a short period say a few weeks or so. Again there are exceptions and some people have horrible reactions right away.

Everyone is different.

Since95 aka Dan,

I'm so glad to see you get through that 15 year struggle. You're giving me true inspiration, man. I guess you could call me since98 aka Jack.

Welcome to paxilprogress!

I echo the above statement. I don't believe anyone here was ever "scared" of w/d, until they went through it.

I pray you don't and there are those who are blessed, but we'll be here to help you, should the need arise.
