I Think This Would be Good, Do You?
Hi guys, I'm slowly weaning off 20 mg Paxil.
It's my 4th withdrawal attempt and I'm determined to succeed this time. I'm doing the 10 percent method. There is one thing I'm planning on doing: When I reach 10 mg, I'm gonna stay at that dose for about 3 or 4 months. This would be for 2 reasons: First, I could just pop one 10 mg pill and not have to deal with cutting pills or measuring liquid doses, so it serves as a short break from the withdrawal process. Second, and this is the main reason, is so that my body will have a longer time than usual to adjust to the 10 mg dose, so that if my withdrawal goes really bad at the low doses, I can return to my new "original dose" of 10 mg rather than my original dose of 20 mg. So basically I wanna stay at 10 mg per day for about 4 months so that if I ever decide to cancel my withdrawal I will just stick with 10 mg rather than what I took all along, 20 mg. What do you think? Good idea?

I think that's a great idea! You can't taper too slow and you should always do what's comfortable for you.

I think this is a very wise idea too, I wish I'd stabilised for longer at 10mg rather that fairly quickly reducing to 9 the 8mg because I thought I could cope. As you know this has caught up with me. I seriously think that the lower you go the more of a shock it is to your brain and you don't always know until you're in a really bad way.
You've got a really good head on your shoulders, are rationally thinking this through and your determination is so evident I know you will succeed! All the best

Sounds like a good plan. I've been thinking about staying at 5mg for quite a few months. Even now, at 6.5mg, I'm thinking I may need to stay on these doses for longer. I think it does help to give the body plenty of time to adjust to a lower dose.

Re: I Think This Would be Good, Do You?
I'm sorry, but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I did the same and the drug pooped out in that space of time, I was doing really great at 10mg, but i stayed for too long, I should have had continued tapering. we see this happening all the time here.

4 months isn't that long, and we're supposed to taper really slowly anyway.

You're correct. Four months isn't that long and you're tapering consistently all the way to that point, then holding for a few months; this isn't a bad idea at all.
