When is the best time to take Paxil, morning or night?

I am curious when is the best time to take Paxil. I take mine in the morning but I am wondering if I take it at night if I may sleep better.

Any ideas? Especially from those who have sleep issues. Thanks!

Re: When is the best time to take Paxil, morning or night?

I'm sure it varies from person to person. If you think it might work better at night, give it a try and find out.

Speaking for myself, I took Effexor for many years and had never-ending sleep issues. If I took it at night, I'd barely get any sleep at all, so I always tried to take it first thing in the morning. Conversely, I've read of plenty of people who take it at night and have no problem with sleep.

I agree. I think it's the same for any antidepressant. Better for some in the morning, and better for others at nite.

Re: When is the best time to take Paxil, morning or night?

I think I remember reading somewhere that paxil agitates (rather than sedates) so is better taken in the morning. I've always taken mine in the morning (as instructed in the blurb that comes with the drug). Never thought about taking it in the evening.

Re: When is the best time to take Paxil, morning or night?

It didn't agitate me. Quite the opposite. It calmed my nervous system quite a lot, which is why I stayed on it so long.

When I was on 40mg, I'd take 20mg in the morning and 20mg at night.

Re: When is the best time to take Paxil, morning or night?

I am thinking about changing from morning to night or doing half in the morning and half at night. I am not sure though. It is scary to even try it becuase I don't want to mess up a night's sleep trying to figure it out. Especially since I haven't been sleeping well. I remember back when I first started my taper, I would take half in the morning and half at night and it seemed to help with my anxiety while at work. I am trying to get my sleep stabilized right now and thinking it may be worth it to experiment.

It never agitated me either. In fact, it states on the bottle, it causes drowsiness, which is why I always took it at night.

Also the reason so many of us suffer from lethargy from the drug.

I've always taken mine in the morning, just cuz that's what my doc originally told me to do.

Re: When is the best time to take Paxil, morning or night?

I always took mine in the morning, but it didn't agitate me or make me drowsy, I don't think it had an effect that quickly for me. Be careful if you try splitting your dose, your body may feel it as a dose drop.

Re: When is the best time to take Paxil, morning or night?

Paxil is considered one of the sedative drugs so normally doctors recommend to take it at night if you have issues sleeping. Although in my experience (paxil at higher doses made me tired all the time) it really didn't matter when I took it, I was always fricken tired. Its so nice to be down to such a low dose and not be exhausted all the time!
