Re: Couldnt make it

Well whether Paxil or the CR it is still paxil and I am still hoping to stabilize. Although somewhat functional at work have some huge projects coming up and cannot be "out of the game". Need to get through the next few months without major problems.

Re: Couldnt make it

Well another day gone and work was ok. In retrospect considering what I was a few weeks ago, I will say there is definite improvment, just not as quick or dramatic as anticipated. Mornings are still very tough, but once I am at work I am starting to see bits and pieces of my old self, even with some occassional humor. I still dont know if the reinstatement will work or not, but I am still better than I was. Mornings as expected are still very tough but I am getting used to them. Sleep is nearly impossible though. I do get very tired then simply cannot fall asleep. I read that trypotphan and paxil dont go well together so I have been taking some melatonin which isnt really doing anything. Sleep a few hours at a time. Friday it will be six weeks back on, I guess the next few weeks will tell the tale.

How many mgs of melatonin are you taking? I have to take 5 mgs to get ANY effect at all.

Hi Vetteman, you've probably mentioned this before, but the thread is pretty long- why did you decide to go off of Paxil in the first place?

Re: Couldnt make it

I decided to get off paxil when my grandson was born. It was then that I noticed that my joy at that event was not as "moving" as it should have been even after the baby was named after me. I looked back at some of the good things and bad things that happened over the last five years and realized that I was on "too even of a keel" which is not what the way the real world is. I used to cry at "chick flicks" and used to laugh at good comedies and all of that was gone. I definitely feel that I needed the drug when I first started taking it due to divorce, job problems, etc. Was in a very bad depression, but as time went on and those things straightened out I should have backed off then. I will state I really didnt experience the weight gain or sexual dysfunction that are usual side effects but I think that was due to a very rigourous workout schedule. I guess I was lucky in that respect. I was also drining too much alcohol while on paxil. I finally decided to enjoy whatever time I have left on this earth with my grandchild and kids without being in suspended animation. I truly wish that I had found this site before taking matters into my own hands. I have now created this mess I am in and hoping that my reinstatement works. At that point I am determined to get "my life" back and try to get through the peaks and valleys. I think that is what life is and we as a culture are used to taking a pill that cures all. When things go bad it is okay to be down and when things are good I want to enjoy them. Hope that explains it.

They named the baby "vetteman"? How unusual!

Glad to hear you're starting to see more improvement!

Five mgs. is the most *I'd* take. It's the only amount that works for me. That being said, I still wake up during the night (sometimes several times) but I'm able to fall asleep, which was the bigger issue.

My insomnia isn't due to w/d....just middle age

That's a big improvement over your first posts, Vetteman! You are doing fine. The sleep issues SUCKED for me big time...it was one of the things I really had a hard time dealing with...that and wanting to go into a complete rage in the mornings!

Sorry, PG....43 is middle aged. Doubling it gives you 86 and if that ain't middle aged, I don't know what is. I don't say it like it's a bad thing, it's just a number.

Re: Couldnt make it

You guys are supposed to cheer me up and I just turned 55. Now I am REALLY DEPRESSED. Does that mean I am beyond middle aged?
Todays update: A few good days in a row at work. Had real glimpses of my old self. Last night actually watched my beloved Yankees finally win a game. First time I watched TV for more than ten minutes in a long time. Tinnitus is still very annoying and pressure at work is enormous but seem to be handling it ok for a change. Morning anxiety not too bad except I am not a morning person and hate getting out of bed (especially this time of year). A little anxiety about tomorrow, my day off in which I tend to hang around and do nothing except think about how crappy I feel. Interested to see if I am somewhat ok tomorrow. This is the first time I am somewhat convinced that I have had improvments and even my family tells me I sound different on the phone-must be a good sign.

Woo hoo! Kickass, Vetteman!

Instead of hanging around tomorrow, make yourself go out for a while. Go shopping (I can happily give you my shoe size and type of shoes I like) get some lunch, stuff like that

Oh, and 55 isn't old either. I'm telling ya...they're just numbers

Laurie-going to do my best to spend some money tomorrow. What size shoes do you wear-lol. Going to try to meet some friends for lunch and force myself to get out of the house. Not going to think about it and psyche myself out. Just sleep in for awhile and carry on.

Re: Couldnt make it

Todays post. Well yesterday I did feel better and got my errands done. Ended up with a work problem (even though I was off) that gave me some anxiety, but then got a call late in the day with a dinner invite that I accepted without hesitation. Small changes but they are becoming noticeable to me which I accept as a real good sign. Up to now, the changes were being seen by others but not by me. I am not anticipating too much as this week coming up is going to be a nightmare. So slow and steady I hope.
