Anyone one out there have daily muscle spasms/cramps?

Not sure what to do about this. I have had them for going on 3 years now, they are everyday with multiple muscle groups on my body cramping and twitching/moving. It is way worse during withdrawal. My muscles are sore almost everyday and I feel very weak. I had MRI's EEG's blood work last year and everything was normal according to the doctors. Everyone else out there talks about muscle jerks when falling to sleep, but this has NOTHING to do with falling asleep. Anyone out there experience this?

Muscle cramping can be do to dehydration, low potassium levels, etc. Are you dealing with more cramping, or twitching?

Yes, I have this on my left side mostly. Leg muscles miniature cramps. Reminiscant of Pizotifen withdrawal and the too fast Effexor taper. It is back again, but is going to improve. Always after I walk long promenades they come back, but less after some time.

Re: Anyone one out there have daily muscle spasms/cramps?

I experienced all kinds of funky and annoying muscle twitches and flutters in my arms and legs up until about the 3 year mark. Maybe even longer, I'm not really certain. I can't be sure it was Paxil related, but I definitely experienced it. Funniest one was the twitching gluteus, which would show up every few days just to taunt me. LOL

Stay well hydrated and make sure your potassium, magnesium and calcium levels are good.

Re: Anyone one out there have daily muscle spasms/cramps?

I'm pretty certain my potassium and calcium levels are optimal, but I never had my magnesium checked. I am quite certain it is paxil causing a lot of my problems including all of this. People might think its weird or presumptuous for me to say this, but I think this has something to do with my brain stem and the impact that paxil has on it. I can feel it clear as day and it hurts very badly and burns. Wish I could figure this out. This whole experience is quite scary, especially when there are no answers, no one believes me and I can't help but wonder if I will get through this. I keep holding on to all the positive reports from people over the years but also remembering the people who haven't much improved. I know this drug has done some sort of damage in some way to my brain but I will do my very best and keep pushing through this and that is all I can ask of myself. One thing I am certain with is I can not tolerate ssri's anymore and this is the right thing for me to do. Thanks for the replies.

This began almost three years ago and was before I started tapering at all. It gets worse when tapering or starting the med. It wasn't nearly as bad when I came off originally. It is definitely related to the paxil though. It has been really bad the past few days. It is almost non stop, simultanious muscle group twitching in different areas all day every day.

Re: Anyone one out there have daily muscle spasms/cramps?

Do you take Magnesium at all? If not, then definitely get some Magnesium Glycinate and start taking it. Stress is known to deplete magnesium levels and what you are describing could also be related to magnesium deficiency. The symptoms are:Muscle Cramps, Anxiety, Spasms, Fatigue, Headaches, Irritability, Sleep-Disorders, Low Energy and Body-Tension.

I feel for you, I HATE the muscle jerks I have when trying to sleep. They drive me crazy. But, at least you are almost off of Paxil and that is something to be proud of!! Once you are off you can truly begin the healing process.

Re: Anyone one out there have daily muscle spasms/cramps?

I had severe muscle spasms while on and withdrawing from Paxil. I had them so severely in my back two times that I could hardly move and had to be taken to the doctor. I tried chiropractor the first time and it didn't help. I'd wake up with them in my legs and have to get out of bed to try and work it out.

This is a known side effect of Paxil because even the psychiatrist that I was seeing, (who was unknow to me, duing GSK drug studies on Paxil,) told me this was from Paxil. It will go away, mind did and yours will also.

All I can do is hope this nightmare goes away after paxil. I think it will but the unknown is always uncomfortable. Thanks everyone.

Oh, misunderstood, more twitching probably. Although most of my muscles are sore and constricted almost everyday. Actual cramps come here and there.

Hey, Rbd! I experienced all the symptoms you described. As scary as it is, it will be improving with time. It takes longer than we would like, but the system rebalances itself eventually, no matter what. Take care!
