don't want to rain on...
I'd just like to caution folks to use...well...CAUTION in
responding to message-board solicitations for money. Philanthropy is a beautiful thing, and I would strongly recommend giving locally to organizations whose track records can be easily vetted. Too, I'd like to point out that there's arsenic in almost all drinking water, higher in some parts of the country than in others---this has been in the news of late, as the Bush administration has been reluctant to lower the legally accpetable limit. It's one of the issues that his chosen EPA director reportedly resigned over, & it's not put there by evil conspiracy, but is left there by government laxity, & most of us likely won't be harmed by it. What I'm saying is: there's lots of weird crap in our bodies, & while I'd like to blame GSK for it all, to do so would ammount to paranoia & indicate a reluctance to take responsibility for our own well-being. Which is what I love most about this site--Darcy's firm belief that our happiness is in OUR hands. |

thanks!
Reveler, thank you for the kind words and heads up on tap water.
I'm sure local inspectors do a great job keeping our drinking water safe but yeah, there are tolerances and limits in place which are not absolute and some things do get through in low levels. It's all about money though. I mean, it would be much more expensive to make even cleaner water and retrofit all the treatment centres across the continent. We'd much rather spend money on oil refineries than desalinization plants for ocean water which would help water shortages real fast it seems. But that's ok, we're slowly heading towards there as planet citizens, and I just hope we make the shift before we abuse our only home so much that it can no longer sustain us. There's an article on the welcome page http://www.paxilprogress.org (or here's a shortcut http://www.msnbc.com/news/984141.asp?cp1=1 ) that talks about Prozac making its way into fish tissues and lake water. This is extremely alarming for it shows that not only do our 'feel good' drugs wash out our ability to feel and loss of accountability for how we feel, but it is in such great numbers that now our wildlife is paying for it. And we're too fake-happy on Prozac to care about the fish and water hehe. (Please note sarcasm...) I wonder if they'll have to start labelling fish products as 'certified prozac free' hehe. I don't think it will ever come to that but...but...BUT... If there's such thing as a chemical imbalance, it is appearing now as it abuses ecosystems. There's an imbalance in our sewer system, it's depressed hehe. Life knows what its doing. We're such pests in many cases. |
