Antidepressants and Drug Tests

I am about to start a new job and will be taking a drug test before I start. I am currently taking 20 mg of Prozac and I'm wondering if it will show up on the drug test. I know that I'm protected by the ADA and HIPA (in the US) but I don't particularly want my medication being public knowledge. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Nope. They don't even look for things like that. Workplace drug tests are looking for illegal substances. Unless you're applying to be a pilot, it's nothing to worry about.

What about lorazepam? Do I need to disclose that? I'm taking a new hire drug test next week.

Yes lorezepam WILL show up in most pre employment drug screens. As long as you have a rx you will be good. It will cause a positive benzodiazepine result.

Re: Antidepressants and Drug Tests

Just FYI: A change has been added to Wellbutrin's label that includes;

"False-positive urine immunoassay screening tests for amphetamines have been reported in patients taking bupropion. This is due to lack of specificity of some screening tests. False-positive test results may result even following discontinuation of bupropion therapy. Confirmatory tests, such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, will distinguish bupropion from amphetamines."...

Wow,I wonder how many Meth addicts use Wellbutrin as an excuse when they flunk drug tests.

Re: Antidepressants and Drug Tests

I doubt many know about it... new antidepressant warnings don't get much press.

Re: Antidepressants and Drug Tests

Keep in mind folks - if a drug test comes back questionable, it's not just assumed and dismissed as the person testing positive for illegal substances. Further testing would be warranted and if a meth addict tried to use Wellbutrin as an excuse, it would have to be proven.

It's no big deal at all for people who take ADs to get a drug test. If it were, millions of people would fail employer drug tests and that simply is not the case.
