Nearly off paroxatine but can't shift last small dose

I have been trying to get off paroxatine for nearly a year now, I thought I had finally cracked it when I was dividing a tablet into very small pieces and am only taking a piece every two weeks, but I just don't seem able to give up that last bit. I have headaches, feel 'sinusy' and dizzy. I complained to my doctor who said I was taking far too small a dose for this to be affecting me. Is this correct? When I had my last really bad session, I actually thought I had sun stroke I felt so bad. Once I had decided it might actually be withdrawal, I took some more paroxatine and what do you know the symptoms disappeared! I am now trying again and they have returned. My problem is compounded by the fact that I have hydrochephalus and a shunt, which can also present with similar symptoms if it fails. Has anybody else suffered the same problem 'weaning off ' the last bit of medication. did they succeed and how?

Youre basically just feeding the addiction now, 2 weeks is a long period of time with this drug, it is mostly gone by the second day. Youre holding on and in effect keeping any symptoms by taking some like that. Youll feel better once you stop for good.

Thanks for the reply, am I in effect causing these effects by continuing to take the drug?

Hi rachel - i agree with Scott. You're body is sort of getting used to not having any paxil and then just as its really beginning to click that its gone you give it some more.
Maybe just go for it and stop?
Keep in touch on the board - there'll are loads of people here who will offer you help and advice.
