Questions for those who have used Trazodone

It looks like I have hit poopout on trazodone. I posted about a bad episode I had a few weeks ago. Last night I woke up with a nasty stomach ache and didn't sleep much. Today my stomach hurts, I have nausea and am not eating again. I have actually been having problems with waking up with a stomach ache frequently over the past year after taking trazodone for 12 years. Its getting worse.

The problem is, with my stomach problems, I would like to get off this med quickly as my stomach is no longer tolerating the drug. But I know that after 12 years of use, I could face withdrawal issues and sleep problems with stopping fast.

I was wondering if there was any other long term user of trazodone that have gotten off the drug and how they did it. I am holding steady on the paxil dosage for now and would like to reduce the trazodone at least a little for my stomach's sake. How much and how fast can I reduce this drug? Anybody else have this happen?

Your tummy pain could be possibly from WD from Paxil! I had something akin to IBS while weaning Paxil and had to give up everything fried and magnesium. How much Trazadone are you taking?

I have had plenty of tummy troubles with paxil so I know that paxil can cause them. Over the past year or so I have been frequently waking up with stomach aches that go away in an hour or two of waking. Any time I tried taking even a slightly larger dose the stomach aches were worse. A few weeks ago I was having bad insomnia troubles and upped my dose by 50%. Had a total tummy meltdown.

After that, I discovered that if I added a low dose of melatonin to the regular dose of trazodone I could sleep a reasonable amount each night. I knew this wouldn't last forever. Then last night I had a bad stomach ache. Today is better, but the symptoms are just like when I took the extra Trazodone.

I am very sensitive to meds. My regular dose is only 25mg.

It's hard to say which one is causing the problem. You know yourself when you took extra how you felt. Good Luck!

January 2000 to May 2009 – Paxil dosage rises to 40mg. Numerous failed attempts to quit. June to July 2009 – too fast taper, wind up in ER. Read paxilprogress and decide to stabilize at 30mg. Sept '09 through summer '11 slowly tapered to 9mg. Aug '11 Updosed to 14mg Continue taper at 5% each month As of June 2012 10mg.

Eileen __________________ June 13/07-reducing by .05mg. every four weeks to present. October 29/08-Paxil Free 2006-Cut Trazodone from 150mg to 100mg. Sept 07/09- Trazodone 75mg. 4/10 Weaning Benzo. 12/11 Benzo Free! Started this journey of horror with AD's in 1994, Put on Paxil 30 mg in Feb/1995 I will survive!
