Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

I am getting burnt out on feeling like hurling if I so much as think about food. It looks like my current problems with my stomach aren't going away right away on their own, so what do you do for nausea??

Peppermints (candy, gum, and tea) and Emetrol got me through my nausea phase.

Ginger, ginger, ginger. Best stuff, EVER! And, as an IBS sufferer, something I use often. Also, if things get really rough, you can buy Coke Syrup (or other anti nausea medicine) at the pharmacy.

You can buy powder, capsule, crystalized ginger, etc. Any drugstore or health food store carries various forms of ginger.

Ginger tea - buy a ginger root at the grocery store. Cut up some thin slices of the ginger root. Pour boiling water over it and let it steep for awhile. Drink the tea. You can add honey and/or lemon to it for taste. It will keep in the fridge for several days.

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

Thank you all for your suggestions. Unfortunately I can't eat peppermint candy since I am not supposed to have any refined sugar. But I do have my own private peppermint forest growing outside my door. I have tried peppermint tea before and it didn't do much, but at least it is something I can drink.

I wish I had better stores nearby. I would like to try some ginger root tea, but I am not up to driving an hour to whole foods. Maybe I can get my mom to look for ginger products tomorrow.

Sometimes I wish life had a fast forward button as I would so like to skip forward to a time when I am paxil free!!!

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

If you make a fast forward button, I would like to borrow it!

I found ginger at my grocery store where the spices are, next to salt pepper, curry, basil oregano, etc.

I put it in hot water to make a "tea."

Also you can buy it online, don't know if its worth it though...

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

Wouldn't it be nice if Staples sold a fast forward button instead of their "Easy Button"? Oh well, I guess for now we have to live in reality and wait.

I think I would like to get some actual ginger root. I would think making tea from powder would create a gritty tea... or does it dissolve well???

Macadamia,

My mom is going to buy me some ginger root today. How much root does it take to make a cup of tea?

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

I think a couple thin slices would be sufficient for a cup. It depends on how spicy you like it, because, as you may know, ginger has a bit of a "kick" to it.

If it is too strong, simply dilute it down with water.

I second the ginger. I buy my ginger root at the grocery store and sweeten my tea with a small amount of honey. I often drank it alone. I can remember being where you are Norma. It goes away even though we think we're never going to get through it.

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

I am sorry to hear about your naseau. It is the pits, because eating is the only thing I a am able to enjoy during this rotten business.

My naseau lasted 5 weeks and then began to ease off last taper. This taper has been 4 weeks and now much better.

I hate peppermnt tea but resorted to it and it did help a bit.

I have always put grated ginger root in my tea (for poor circulation) and I don't think it helped me with naseau.

When I couldn't eat, I drank my meals to get protein. Usually blended milk, yoghurt, egg and banana. You can sip it all through the day. Add whatever you like to it that you can tolerate.

Hope it soon passes.

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

I buy commercially made ginger tea (most brands that make herbal and fruit teas make one with ginger), and it seems to work well for me. I also like to chew on crystallised ginger, which also works well, however most brands do coat the ginger pieces in sugar.

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

How is the naseau now Norma?

I remembered a few other things that helped me:
Semolina porridge is easy to digest
Eat less when you feel you can eat again or the naseau comes back
(eat half yhour meal for lunch andtghe other half at dinner time)
Clear vege soup (homemade) - just drink the fluid if you're real bad
Beef soup (homemade) - again, drink the fluid, sip it thru the day or eat the meat depending on how bad it is. This is VERY NUTRITIOUS and easily tolerated.

My naseau continues to improve so that I am eating a bit more now and I even ventured to eat 1 more of my Easter chocolates - been sitting there since April when they would normally be all gone in a week!

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

I have been developing a trend over the last few days... I get nausea in the evenings starting around 5. I think its the paxil...

Anyways, this evening I decided to make a good strong tea from ginger and peppermint together. Added a healthy dose of stevia and drank a cup. Layed down for about half an hour... and felt considerably better!!!! I actually ate supper tonight!

Re: Need suggestions for dealing with nausea

I bought Rescue Remedy as the nausea is often due to severe anxiety affecting the stomach tension. A few weeks ago I had the most HORRIFIC time with it, I could eat next to nothing and was sick when I did, I had horrific panic attacks in the mornings shaking like a leaf in bed, and the attacks were about the stupidest weirdest things. I had previously been quite jumpy, like at burglar alarms and such but NEVER anything like this.

FU, SSRLies. I hope your nausea eases soon Norma.
