withdrawal

Hi, new here! I just tried going off my paxil. It has been a nightmare! I did not know how severe withdrawal was until after the fact and I looked it up on the internet. I had been on 40 mg for about 2 months. (orignally on 30) Well, actually my doctor told me I could take 40 for two weeks a month and 20 for 2 weeks. (the stronger dose was to manage pms) Not a good idea going from 20 to 40 then back to 20. Well anyway, I was doing good on the 20 for several weeks so I decided to cut it back to 10.
Then I quit after only a few days of the 10. I had nausea, dizziness, headaches, vertigo-extreme when I turned my head or just moved my eyes! Also the zaps. And just feeling bad. Also, lots of crying. Well, I ended up having to go back on the Paxil. I started back 10 mg saturday evening. I am still having some vertigo and zaps. Also very bad headache today, but I also have an abscess tooth and thought that could conrtibute to the h/a. Well I am still feeling very moody and my grandfather died yesterday, so it has been tough. I have been sooo ill and ugly toward my family and friends, I am lucky they are understanding. I dont know what to do. I feel like maybe I need to increase the paxil, but dont really want to do that, but I cant continue to function like this. Also I have gained about 30 pounds since taking the Paxil. But I feel like there may be no other alternative except taking the paxil. I have tried about 3 other meds and could not take them. But if I had know how severe the withdrawal would be of paxil I would have never taken it. (on it for about 2 years) Any advice anyone?

yeah its not a good idea to switch doses like that considering the drug can take a month to take effect at a single dose. There are plenty of options outside of paxil, dont worry, you just have to taper very slowly with this drug. Understand that all of what you just described I have felt myself as have most everyone on this site. I had feelings of anger and sadness coming off the drug I didnt know were possible in me. The key is taking it slowly.
