Hypnic Jerks

When I try to go to sleep recently, in addition to insomnia, I have had a hard time with hypnic jerks. They are kinda scary because I feel like I am falling. How do you get rid of these?

Re: Hypnic Jerks

My hypnic jerks improved after I quit taking certain supplements, especially magnesium and vitamin D.

First, you start learning not to be afraid of every sensation your body throws at you. The problem isn't the hypnic jerk, its your reaction.

Re: Hypnic Jerks

I use to get sensations in my back that when I would lie in bed in the dark it felt like the bed was rolling over, once I figured out I wasn't actually falling it was actually really kinda fun.

Re: Hypnic Jerks

I began having fasciculations throughout the day, everyday, after a year of being off the drugs. Really weird...

Re: Hypnic Jerks

I had these really bad for over a year. They were strong and relentless, lasting for hours. I took Magnesium for them which seemed to help at first but somewhere along the way it turned on me. When I stopped taking it they improved about 80% although I do still get them from time to time. In fact I had a couple last night. Unfortunately I'm not sure there is much that can be done except in time they will pass or at least improve. A cup or two of chamomile tea before bed might help to relax you as well.
