antibiotics and anxiety question...
Hi everyone,
I just have a question, I have been off of ssris for almost 4 mths, and ativan for almost 4 weeks. I have been doing pretty well lately. However last week I ended up getting a sinus infection and was put on augmentin antibiotic for it and I have been getting some anxiety again and also the nausea, I know the infection can make you feel horrible, but was wondering if certain antibiotics can cause withdrawal effects? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day! |

I'm not sure about what they do as I haven't had any in awhile, but I would take a probiotic once you're done with the anti-biotic. They kill the good organisms as well as the bad so you need to replenish them. Otherwise you will develop an overgrowth of the bad and this alone will make you feel bad.

Jan, You could have a yeast overgrowth to begin with. The AMA has now declared that 98% of all chronic sinus conditions it caused by a yeast overgrowth and that taking antibiotics is the wrong course of action.
I have a product called Sinus Cleanser by Patrick Quillan that I use. You turn your head over the sink squirt a little in each nostril and snort it up in the nasal cavity. It really is great. I have little problems now with the allergies, sinus infections etc. I am experiencing some now, but I am going through a cleanse and I know that it has things all stirred up and I can feel it in my ear area, but I know that the cleanse is working. You might try the probiotics, lots of water, change in diet to reduce the yeasts loving foods, like sugar, carbs, white flour etc, and the sinus cleanser and I bet you never get another infection. Anyway that's my 2 cents worth, Darlene |

Howdy,
About a month ago I had a sinus/ear infection and was prescribed an antibiotic (can't remember name, but i can get it if you want). A few hours after taking it, MAJOR ANXIETY! It came out of the blue with no provocation. I called pharmacist and they said it can react with your nervous system. Doc changed me to Biaxin and I had no issues. One of the side effects on the antibiotic label was central nervous system agitiation. Forgot to mention I have been off Paxil for almost 16 months. Tom |

One of the more commonly prescribed antibiotics for sinus infections is Avelox. It can cause rapid heart beat, nausea, anxiety. As someone who has never suffered from anxiety this stuff was awful! I can imagine that these symptoms could mimic anxiety/panic. Watch out for this one!!

Tom,
Thanks for that info. I really thought it may have something to do with this antibiotic. My anxiety is crazy, emotions wacky. I will look into that bioxin. Thanks so much |
