just started coming off

hello.I have been on aropax(paxil) for 2 years now and they have been the worst of my life.I have went from a moderate drinker to a full on alcoholic.I have tried to kill myself once, which when i was not on the tablets, i did not think of doing.I have done things that i would not believe that i would do.I have lost my wife and home because of the things that i have done.So last week i went cold turkey.I was on 40mg a day.I did not know what to expect and i did not know what my family and i had went through was so common.I have been crying for about a hour.I do not know myself anymore and i don't want that anymore.

hey,
Im sorry to hear about your current situation. I don't really know waht to say except your not alone. There seems to be many wise people on this board who are more than willing to help out with tons of useful info. It really does suck that these type of problems are so common with people taking aropax (paxil) yet doctors are so quick to deny any association and, therefore, lead us to believe that it is our brain's that are messed up and not the results of this crazy drug. I would strongly suggest against the cold turkey method. I would just love for my body to be rid of this drug, but after alot of reading and trying cold turkey myself, i beleive the safest way to come off is slowly tappering.

I don't know what it is about aropax (paxil) and alcohol. I crave it all the time, have ended up in the lock up, psych ward, freaked out friends and really pushed my family to the limit due to my consumption. Although i drank before i was taking aropax, nothing to the extent i do now and it certainly didn't cause me to do any of the stuff i have done whilst on this drug. I constantly swear off alcohol, only to cave into the old 'just one won't hurt.'

Yeah,

You gotta wean properly. I quit cold turkey and endured feeling like **** for about a year. It was like nothing I have ever felt.

Seriously, you really should wean off this crap. It'll take time, but I think you'll slowly get back to normal.

One step at a time....

Scottfree...I was on Paxil for over 6 years. Paxil did eliminate my panic attacks but it created a "host" of other problems - I developed an extraordinary tolerance for alcohol. It made me so depressed at times I tried to "off" myself once. It clouded my judgement. Now I am almost 1 month off Paxil after months of weaning off. I have tried to go "cold turkey" 3X but with horrendous withdrawals. Like everyone here recommends a slow wean is best. Hang on there and a big hug to you.

Scottfree, Welcome to the Board!! It was explained to me that increased alcohol use(or pot smoking)is very common among Paxil users. It helps calm the akasthesia(constant restlessness). My son described it as an uncontrollable urge to smoke pot and thats the only time he felt normal. I agree with the rest of the group about going back on Paxil and then starting to wean. Cold turkey isn't the way to go!! Its just to hard on the brain. Wean slowly and realize that it will take time, but it can be done and its much safer to wean.

How are you feeling now compared to the way you felt on Paxil? I went cold turkey and don't seem to feel any worse than some of the others here who weaned off, and like you I just wanted to be out of the living hell. But if you've only been off a week and you're feeling way out of control, then it may be in your best interest to wean off. Can you call your doctor about this NOW? Please try not to drink ....

Craving stinulants of any kind is common while on these drugs. You might want to look at the Dr. Ann Tracy Post in this section to read what else she has to say about what these drugs do to the body.

Re: just started coming off

Thanks for returning and letting others know your success! You say your feelings are returning and this is good and bad. What is the bad?? At one year mark anxiety can still flare as other withdrawal symptoms, just less severe.
