Paxil and Pregnancy

Is it safe to be on paxil when you are pregnant? i have read it is not in some books and sites and on others that it is. My doctor says it is.. but then again he never informed me of the effects of this drug going on it and going off it. i tried to go off it weaning off this past may and after 2 weeks i had to go and get my prescription filled again because i was so sick.. now i am trying to go off it again because i want to start trying to get pregnant in the next 6 months. I have been taking 20 mg for a year now and was taking 10mg for the previous year because of anxiety. I cut down to 15mg now for the past week and so far i am only tired....I am just worried that since i have been taking this drug it might have an effect on 1- trying to get pregnant and 2- effects on an unborn child.

feed back would be appreciated.

Here's a link to a recent article out of Canada about the effect of ssri's on newborns. This is one of the first times we've seen anything about the effects on a newborn.

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medi...p?newsid=11867

I wouldn't want to be on an ssri while pregnant.

thank you for the link!!!

thank you for the link... i printed it off and read it... i will be taking a copy to my family doctor when i go for my routine paxil check up..he wanted me to taper down to 10mg and just stay there forever....not likely!! there is no way i am going to be on paxil when trying to get pregnant or when i am pregnant.. i would rather go to a shrink and sit on a couch than take this medication ever again.....!!!
