1 day paxil free...

My last pill was (or portion of a pill ) was Thursday night. (I was instructed to take them at night being it was taken for fibromyalgia.) So last night was the first night I skipped. Today went much better than I had expected, but my attitude has been much better, as well. I had to give myself an ***-whooping a couple of days ago. That self pity party was becoming too all-consuming. Biggest challenges today were the whooshing in my head and trying to regulate my body temperature. Sweat just from walking stairs and my office is upstairs. I don't work tomorrow or Monday though, so I can rest if I need to. (Though I'm looking forward to a good long, easy run tomorrow.)

It's so cool for you to be free....

Make sure you tell us how you feel EVERY day......

It's just so encouraging to see it all play out the way it should.

And It will!

Hey Rocksinger--Didn't sleep for **** last night, but my hubby's gone hunting, I had two glasses of wine before bed, and coming down with a cold. Not to mention, I kept thinking someone was in my house. Spooky! So can't say as I can blame it on the Paxil, though I'd sure like to!
Whooshes are dominant this morning, but will hopefully subside once I have my morning coffee and toast.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Rhonda

Despite it all, it is such an exhilarating feeling to know I'm no longer a slave to that damn pill!

It will get better and better Rhonda. Have you thought about how you are going to deal with the fibromyalgia if it returns?

Good luck.

I've managed my fibro. all along by physical exercise, eating well, trying to keep stress to a minimum (which has been quite difficult during withdrawl), etc. The Paxil was supposed to help me get into the REM sleep stage. BUT...I never found out if I could do that on my own, because the doc never gave me a chance to find out. Just kept me on Paxil--frankly, I don't think he wanted to bother with me and trying to get me off of it. It's easier for him to just keep writing on his little prescription pad. (No longer with the same doc. The one I have now is encouraging me to go off of it.)
This morning my grandsons knocked on my door with a plate of brownies--they live 2 doors down from us. They said "Papa told us to check on you while him and the boys are gone." I was moved to tears! Nothing like a child (especially grandbabies! to cheer one up). After they left I went for a 4 mile run, then walked one and my senses were so heightened. The weather was stunning, the red/orange maple leaves brighter than ever and a friend of my 12-year-old son went by on his skateboard, with a new deck and paint in his hand (must have been at the store) and cologne that hung for a long time after he passed me. People probably thought I was goofy with such a smile on my face. I felt almost...euphoric! Hard to explain. Now, this afternoon the Broncos will cream the Raiders and I will be watching it with a microbrew that I haven't had in sooo long! Does it get any better? :P

I always thought that antidepressants suppress REM sleep. Who can fill me in?

A web site with plenty of info on fibromyalgia and natural alternatives:

Take care Rhonda.

Elisa,
I'm so embarrased to say that I never did any research of my own regarding Paxil and Fibro, just listened to the docs that it's one of the SSRI's prescribed for it. How stupid on my part! Thank you for the website regarding healthnews. I really love to read that and believe that is the answer!

Laurie,
I had to laugh at your granddaughter's comment.
My youngest grandson is 3 and for christmas he wants grandma and grandpa to get him a "pink bobbie caa and pink bobbi house." (Pink Barbie car and Barbie house). My husband truly freaked. I assured him Jayden is normal to which he responded with a very leary expression.
(I think we will go with a toy computer though since that's another choice of his.)

Rhonda, This might help explain the Rem Sleep stuff:

http://www.antidepressantsfacts.com/pinealstory.htm

Ryan and I are sitting here talking about this. He tells me that when he was on Paxil he felt like he had "control" over his dreams. The site above explains that normally when we're in REM the serotonin "action" drops to nothing. This allows normal REM when the only movement that the body allows is eye movement. The rest of the body is essentially paralyzed. Now alter and artificially keep that same serotonin level elevated and you've got a whole new ballgame. No paralysis, the ability to move and talk, etc... Add in a "bad" dream where in the normal brain you can't act it out, now you have that ability to act it out while still essentially asleep. This ability to "control" his dreams is gone now that he's off paxil.

Don't be embarrassed on not doing research. I thought I did the research too and obviously it didn't prevent me from letting Ryan go on this crap. We are trusting individuals who took a drug that was misrepresented by doctors that we held to a higher level. Not anymore!!!

Rhonda, I always believed what any doctor would tell me and therefore was on numerous antidepressants for almost 9 years without ever questioning the doctors. Was that stupid? - I don't think so - rather naieve and too trusting. Didn't have a computer to "enlighten" me so to speak. For the last years or so, I discovered web sites such as PP and "anti"psychiatry. It opened my eyes and have been on a roll since. It's never too late to learn
