More "Every other day" Doctor Advice. Q&A

Quote:
Q slade
(30-Nov-04) . I was placed on paxil a few years ago for about 4 months. When I came off, I came off slow and had terrible withdrawls for about a week. Now... after I had my baby, I told my dr, that I was depressed a few days. They asked if I had ever been on anything and I told them. They gave me a prescription for paxil. I was very weary about going back on it and waited a few months and started taking it. I took it for 1 month. I didn't think I would have to ween off because I wasn't on it long. I stopped taking it cold turkey (partly because of the cost). I have been having such severe withdrals and it has been 3 weeks since I stopped. I am so dizzy, I can't function well, nausea, my whole body is sore, when I walk- I feel like I am going to tip over, and I just can't "snap out of it". I have a 7 month old baby and am having a very hard time trying to deal with this and take care of him. It's so difficult. Is this feeling ever going to go away?
I just can't take this anymore. I feel like I am addicted and the only way to make it go away is to get more. I really don't want to be on it, or have to go back on it to ween off if the withdrawl symptoms are going to go away soon. Any info on help dealing with the withdrawls would also be appreciated.

Thank you...

(01-Dec-04) slade The best way is to go back on an extremely low dose and then wean yourself over a three week period so at the end of it you are taking the lowest possible dose once every two or three days.

Every 2 or 3 days????????

Doctors just don't GET IT!!!! They don't take the time to look at the halflife and use common sense. This frustrated the heck out of me since people follow this advice and then fail.

This kind of advice makes me so angry! How is it that they do not keep themselves informed???? This is the information we received as well, cut the pill in half for two days then stop. I thought my child was going to die...... she wanted to.

All the more reason to keep doing what we are doing to bring awareness!

So much information on SSRI's has been released in the last year or so.

There is NO excuse for the docs anymore. I am starting to think that it is becoming a conspiracy to give out the wrong advise. No I'm NOT paranoid LOL.

When their patients get the wrong advise about withdrawing, these people end up with the doc asking to be put on it again. Then these docs, on their power trip can say: I told you so...... You are depressed, or having panic disorder so you will need them for life. The patients gratefully, will do anything the docs wants, because he was right. And the drugs keep on flourishing.......

BTW: why did shrinks have so many conferences lately? Mine has been going more often since about september 2004. More often than in the previous 4 years combined. (I didn't have the guts yet to ask her why)

I think we know the answer to that question.

LOL We think alike. Probably no remorse though, just how to save their butts, and their profession.

Just have a NEEEED to KNOW what was said in those conferences.

My doc is very good though and gives talk therapy. Not all of her clients are on meds. (which is rare nowadays)

Then a new series of drugs will be ready and patented. Remember the (housewife's little helper) Valium of decades ago?
