Does paxil increases hairloss?

I'm getting paranoid nowadays regarding my hairloss (specially considering how much my hair means to me and that i'm only almost 20y), and then I happen to see somewhere mentioning that paxil increases hairloss...

this could be the answer (or one of the answers).

Any input on this is VERY VERY appreciatted.

thanks

I haven't heard of any research in that, but it's a pretty sure thing that diet and stress can increase hair loss. Taking Paxil and Paxil withdrawal can be stressful experiences, and since diets can change during times of stress, there could be a link.

I wish I knew a vegan answer for making sure your diet is good for finger and nail health, but a doctor once told me beef is good for hair retention.

RMS, Ryan(16) lost ALOT of hair while on paxil and even more during withdrawal. It's all back to normal now. Like Darcy said it might be from the stress or could be from the paxil.

i'm vegetarian and i have nice nails. maybe just making sure you get vitamins, and oil, like vegetable or olive oils, would help? i know for dogs giving them a little bit of oil on their food is supposed to keep their coat shiny, could be similar for people.
i know a lot of vitamin supplements aren't vegan b/c of gelatin, but i take flintstone chewables, which don't have gelatin. (heh, that's leftover from me trying to be vegan but failing b/c of baked goods and ice cream. i still drink soy milk though.)

Laurie - well I the hair i've lost ain't coming back (on the hairline) now I wonder if paxil was to blame, the other medication i've used (doubfull since it wasn't for extended time periods), genetics, my life style, diet,etc...

This is driving me nuts

thanks alot for all your feedback tho

rms, I thought I would end up bald while I was withdrawing. I used to take loads of hairs out of the plug hole after a shower. It scared the life out of me, but, like everything else about withdrawal, it will settle down.

yes it can.. but holy cow in context of withdrawl thats dang near the absolute last thing i'd worry about. People don't like you for your hair they like you for you.

I was on Paxil for 4 + years and never had any hair loss, I switched to Wellbutrin XL & SR from April to November and am still losing hair from it, LOTS of hair, neither WB formula worked for my depression or OCD but did wonders for my anxiety and panic. I switched to Effexor, and am awaiting results. Good luck to all.

msm is supposed to be good for hair growth.. but if it's in your genes to lose your hair you can pretty much forget about it.

SSRI like Paxil can cause hairloss. But if you are male you gotta watch out for the pattern. If your hairline is receeding it's most likely androgenic hairloss and not caused by paxil. Which is bad luck.
