New movie in our Media section-updated 1/20
I just put up another TV episode of Law Journal talking about liability on pharmcos vs. doctors when it comes to drugs like antidepressants. There's a great panel, accented by Dr. Joseph Glenmullen, author of Prozac Backlash.
It's a 155MB download, so if you've got high speed access, give it a viewing! Visit the Media Center for that and other video streams. Grab yourself and inspirational desktop picture too! Last edited by scotty : 01-20-2005 at 01:48 PM. |

Re: New movie in our Media section
Oooooh - what an excellent video!!!
It's definitely worth downloading it. The section about antidepressants is 1/2 hr. The next part is about big pharma and docs' responsibilities )and our own).

Re: New movie in our Media section
What a doofis, I never even SAW that link before.
Maybe you should have something that comes out of the computer and SMACKS people like me in the head? How helpful that would be.

Re: New movie in our Media section
Every page has a title bar with navigation links at the top right. One of them is "media".
The information center, available in the nav bar, also mentions the media center. The main welcome page of paxilprogress has 3 VERY obvious places to click. The one in the middle is "information", which leads to the info center, which mentions the media center. I'm trying, but I can't prevent anyone from having the doofis experience, without being yet another site with annoying popups. |

Re: New movie in our Media section
Indeed, if it were any more obvious, it WOULD have smacked me in the head.
Luckily, I can blame withdrawal.

Re: New movie in our Media section
I wrote to lawjournal after watching the latest show.
This is what I wrote: " I was able to watch your second show on Pharmaceutical/medical lawsuits. As a registered nurse of 20 years and a Mother of a child who attemped suicide twice on Paxil, these shows are critical in informing the public of current issues. I have now become my own "learned intermediary" when it comes to drugs as my sons prescribing physician obviously wasn't. Your last show brought up a very important point. Physicians are responsible for investigating new drugs and should be held accountable. That said, I researched paxil completely prior to my son being put on it and found nothing that would have led me to believe that there were increased risks of suicidality. It was only after recognizing the behavior changes and researching the "unofficial" websites that I realized what was happening. The prescribing psychiatrists response was "he needs more paxil". I'm happy to say that my son is now off paxil and is back to his pre-paxil personality and not suicidal. Please continue to do these shows! Parents of children who have been effected by these drugs are VERY involved in making these risks public. We,as the first line assessors of our children behavior, have a right to have ALL information made public." Amazingly this is the response that I got from Christopher McNoughton a few minutes later. "Laurie-- Thank you for your kind words! We know that we are not NBC or CBS, but I would like to think that in some instances we are very much ahead of the curve-- and last year when we discussed pharmaceutical liability and anti-depressant withdrawl, it was a topic that was about to break nationally. I would highly recommend Dr. Glenmullen's new book The Anti-Depressant Solution which addresses "withdrawl"-- something that doctors have little or no clue about, the pharmaceutical companies don't want you to know about, and apparently the FDA doesn't care about-- and sorry to say it is up to industry watchdogs (lawyers, journalists, whistleblowers) to exercise the enormous task of informing the public of these truths. Thanks for confirming the value of what we are doing. Look later this Spring for a "Top Five" Pharmacuetical offenders-- drugs that have been taken off or will betaken off the market. Sincerely, Christopher Christopher Naughton, Esq. Executive Producer LAW JOURNAL TELEVISION (757) 627-8200 (757) 627-7300 fax www.LawJournalTV.com cwn@LawJournalTV.com" I wrote back and recommended Dr. Abramson's book. I leave NO public forum stone unturned!!

Re: New movie in our Media section
Scotty - thank you for sending (a very impressive) email to the producers of the show
Thanks to you Scotty - you keep the subject alive by doing what you do, the advocate and may I say crusader. Great that you got a reply back that quickly and that they are planning to do something about Big Pharma and such in the future. I hope that they will do something when the official black box warnings come out end January! A website which I bookmarked some time ago and had forgotten, has a lot of info on SSRI's and also about other meds and stuff. It's www.ahrp.org Meanwhile I've signed up to receive government alerts to get (hopefully) news about the black box warnings.

Re: New movie in our Media section
Vera from ahrp.org is a great woman. Her and Cassandra Casey from aspire.us (web site I was helping to update, refresh and update for a while) have made all kinds of noise, and are very connected people in helping the world wake up from its "SSRIs are harmless" slumber. Vera was at the FDA hearings, didi you catch her Laurie? Both women worked closely with Dr. Ann Tracy too (if only by phone at times).
Cassandra took a big step away from ASPIRE though since her personal life needed her to. Her son was a victim of Prozac. I spoke for many hours with her on the phone. She reminds me of Laurie. A passionate mother. |

Re: New movie in our Media section
Yes, the ahrp.org is a great site and lots of copies of REAL documentations on AD's.
Vera is a great writer!! I believe that I have visted aspire.com some time ago, will go and visit again soon. There are so many great websites on all of this, it's getting hard to follow them up faithfully.
