Re: cracked out

When I started Paxil I had strange side effects for almost 3 weeks. This strange feeling like I wasn't myself - sorta outta body like. Unlike you though, I could not eat. No appetite whatsoever.

I lost my orgasm for about 3 months. Fortunately it came back! All side effects eventually went away - except those that I get when I miss a pill.

laurlaur:

These symptons are typical of starting Paxil, no cause for conern. What dosage are you on?

Why was Paxil prescribed?

The people on this site are genuie and are here to offer or just listen, well read actually.

I am sure the hunger is just your body looking for nourishment and protein to offset the activity that paxil is causing.

There is no doubt in my mind, that when I started taking Paxil and it took affect that it saved me, I have no second thoughts about going on Paxil, I just wish the withdrawl was easier......but we are all good people that derseve to feel the same....

Cheers

Ditto!

It saved me, my marriage and my job. This was not a time I could even function to look for other ways to deal with my anxiety. Had it not been there for me I would probably be jobless and divorced.

The withdrawal does suck though and I wish I had been told this before being given the medication. I had no clue.

laurlaur, you should start to notice the side effects diminishing soon. Keep in contact with your Dr. though.

For me it also started to kick in for my anxiety in about a week.

Good luck!

I wish you all had heard Dr Healy speak in the Pittman trial last week.
to say these symptoms are of no concern when he spoke of Zoloft and SSRIs in the same light as LSD is incredible. Would you take LSD every day until you couldnt sleep and your eyes felt like 2 big holes and say its no concern??

AND....the second part of the quote...YES...your body needs nutrients. Not only to counter act the paxil....but that drive will become more intense as the paxil depletes the vital minerals that you need to actually absorb the proper nutrients for your brain.
You were NEVER Deficient of Paxil.
You are....and definitely will be Deficient of Magnesium
And that was probably the cause of the anxiety to begin with. 90% of americans are deficient of it and that causes anxiety.

Re: cracked out

on the magnesium thing, i'm looing into that. is it safe to take magnesium WHILE taking paxil?!

i am on paxil for my "panic disorder". (see my pervious posts). i just always FEEL hungry, it's the strangest thing.

as for the side effects, i'm not more tired or anything, i just dont sleep as easily. i think it might be b/c i'm taking my pill at night(only 10mg). i want to try taking it in the morning but i'm afraid it'll make me drowsy during the day.

meanwhile, i just had to walk to the photocopier to get something and on my way back to my desk it felt like it was taking 50 more steps then it normally does.

Re: cracked out

Laurlaur...YES...absolutely ok to take magnesium while on paxil. In fact is should help you not get any further into depletion that you have to.
Try drinking a glass of water too when you feel hungry.

And like scott said....try your best not to up the dose if you can manage it.It will make it easier in the long run.

Please know that we are concerned for you. I personally do not wish another single human being to go thru what i have been thru. I KNOW you want a fix for the anxiety. I understand that 100%. But i also wish for YOU that you do it safely and not get in any worse a state.

peace

Re: cracked out

Laurlaur, I found this book called Self-Help for Your Anxiety: The Proven 'Anxiety Antidote' Method by Robert Sharpe incredibly helpful. It taught me how to understand my anxiety and why I was having it. It included easy to follow steps that soon became natural for me that did take my anxiety away and made me realize I could beat this without Paxil.

I am done with the book and have the instructions memorized. I would be more than happy to send it to you.

Re: cracked out

I can relate to your thoughts about how Paxil saved relationships, it was my case as well. I went through a depressed (mosty super irritable) time and my doctor raved about how good this stuff was and how there were no side effects and that it wasn't addicting or habit forming. Now that I think about it, she sounded like a commercial.

I had a tough time with my young-adult stepson who lived in the basement. He was fast approaching adulthood and had very little direction, ambition, no dreams. I had visions of him laying on the couch when he was 35. I became more and more irritated with circumstances and with him. That's why I was prescribed Paxil, seems pretty silly now. Well that angst is gone now and I am pretty happy with where I am generally. That's why I thought it was time to quit taking the SSRI. I hope that I don't go back to that b**chy person that I was. My husband was afraid for me to quit Paxil cuz he knows that we got along much better after I started taking it. I would be afraid to make a choice between taking Paxil forever and my marriage....eeeekkk. ??:

The future looks kinda scary.

Re: cracked out

my doctor started me on 20mg of it back in the day before I had the internet... needless to say I was a basketcase about these odd feelings I was having from starting the paxil. Increased anxiety, sleep shot to hell, revved up feeling, light sensitive, difficulty focusing and losing focus while reading things...

if yo'ure going to stay on the drug please give it time to work, like 2 months, before you listen to your doctor's advice (it's coming) about increasing the dose.

I wouldn't wish Paxil on my worst enemy. I went through pure hell when I was trying to get off of it. Everyone has to do what they believe is right for them though.

Being hungry on Paxil lasted forever with me. I gained over 30 lbs. I was also always tired and could nap anytime.

i'm just looking out for you

the placebo effect is a huge part in this.. it's that you know you're doing something so you feel better.. it's the same reason i feel better taking magnesium at different times in the day, it makes me feel like i'm doing something to combat a problem.

Same with me on Remeron. I gained 15lbs and ate constantly. I used to even sleep eat. My wife would hear me chopping vegetables in my sleep. I'd wake up with food in our bed.

Re: cracked out

Laur, the placebo effect is a VERY powerful thing! The weight gain is a big problem. Ryan gained 60 pounds so fast that he now has some of the worst stretch marks I ever seen. Please make sure that this is what you want to do.

<waving arms wildly and swinging body from side to side>Danger, Will Robinson, danger! Paxil causes this. Paxil does weird sh*t to your metabolism. Paxil flips on the cravings switch, and you can't eat enough to satisfy the hunger. In the beginning, Paxil calmed the rage that was me and eased the depression, but at the end I had to choose between being grossly obese and taking my chances again in the real world. I remember once early on I was so zoned out on the Paxil that I couldn't move enough to get out of bed, but I was so hungry that I got a friend to get me a submarine sandwich and feed it to me while I lay there. Life without Paxil is just fine.

A red flag has been raised for you; consider your options. What are your options? That is why we are here, just ask. Take what you need and leave the rest.
