Paxil withdrawal and SAM-e

I'm happy to report my successful withdrawal from Paxil, with the help of SAM-e. This was my third attempt to quit Paxil, which I started at the end of November, and tapered my Paxil over a period of three weeks, from 40 mg a day down to none. I had some very bad days, but the day I forgot to take SAM-e was by far the most hellacious. 4-5 times, on particularly bad days, I took a chip of Paxil (about 2.5 mg), and doing this was a godsend (thanks to wherever this suggestion came from--I forget!). Two months from beginning my withdrawal, this is my first entirely symptom-free week, and it is wonderful. Just want to say, it wasn't easy, but there is hope for getting off Paxil. From what I've read, I can only believe that taking SAM-e helped me through this. Good luck to everyone!

s-adenosylmethionine. Heard it was real good in fighting depression. Tried it, I actually had better results with 5-HTP

I tend to agree with Silence4Now in the other post about SAMe. Although it has a good rep in Europe and does not appear to be dangerous, remember that it does boost serotonin levels and just be aware if you taking Paxil or withdrawing from Paxil what your serotonin is doing. How you do that, I don't know. Also, I will say that I found 5-HTP to be really good for getting a deep and refreshing sleep. But having tried many of these alternatives, I have come to the conclusion that diet and lifestyle and spiritual and mental awareness are the only and the best solution for anxiety and depression unless you need a temporary life boost.

Re: Paxil withdrawal and SAM-e

Michele, first of all, I'm not endorsing SAM-e, just stating what it has done for me. According to the product information, "SAM-e is a natural compound that occurs in every living cell .....and has been clinically found to support and promote joint health, mobility...mood and emotional well-being and liver health." It definitely makes me feel more energetic and creative, and I believe it also helps curb my social anxiety. It is expensive, but for me it has been worth the price. I've been taking it for a couple of years now and don't want to be without it. However, both of my sisters tried it and didn't get the same results I've gotten from it. My only worry is that sometimes SAM-e does seem to be too good to be true, and you know what they say about things that seem too good to be true.
