Anxiety

Does anyone have any theories as to why withdrawal causes so much anxiety? I would like to think that when I have anxiety that is a good thing because it means that things are waking up.

I feel just so incredibly burned out like my body is in high stress constantly - even when I sleep. I wake up from dreams at the drop of the hat. And the rash on my neck and no menstruation tells me this high stress state is ongoing.

Ideas and/or comfort is welcome!

Re: Anxiety

I'm not going to pretend I know exactly why. I think it has to do with receptors being down regulated. I do know that it is really hard, and I am very sorry that you are going through this. Sending you hugs and warm thoughts.

Re: Anxiety

Sorry, I don't know the mechanics behind it either. All I do know is that WD anxiety was not like my regular anxiety at all - it was much, much worse. Now that I am back to regular pre paxil anxiety I can see the difference and that is the good news - WD anxiety eventually passes like all the nasty WD stuff. Hang in there - the brain will heal given time to do so.

Re: Anxiety

I have the same thing. I wake up with it every morning and think "here we go again". Mine is so bad too as in I'm in a constant state of distress. The drop of a pin will send me into fight/flight response. The shakiness is with me throughout the day. It seems to be VERY magnified. I don't remember anxiety being like this at all pre meds. Then I would have a trigger and I would quickly calm down after the emotion ran or it was just a dull feeling of anxiousness (when something was going on in my life). Now its activated yes, even with dreams. My concern (again) is that it has last almost 3 months with really no relief (other than maybe an hour here and there in a week). I can say it hs calmed down enough that I CAN sleep now but I feel it as I fall asleep and I feel it the second I wake up. I'm thinking also it has somerthing to do with down regulating receptors as some people experience this once they start meds until the meds balance out and then again coming off. Although for me the anxiety only lasted a few days each time I dropped a dose then completely dissapeared until mointh 4 being off. Now almost 3 mnths later and still here.

Re: Anxiety

Imac my state of constant anxiety was so much like yours. It started a month after my last dose of Effexor, didn't seem to matter that I was on a new SSRI, and it stayed for 4 to 5 months before I had relief. So I think yours will go away again. I have had it come back since then, but it only lasts a few weeks now, not months. Each time is shorter too. It will go away.
